As a Democrat, it all feels hopeless.

What you're saying isn't logical at all. You guys hate the slogan "make America great again" meaning you don't like how America has ever been before. By definition that isn't a centrist view. Most Americans do like America and find many aspects of America to be really great. So the idea of MAGA is inherently much more centrist since it has a favorable view of the US.

Don't be daft. MAGA means "going back" to some ideal that white people falsely believe existed in the 50s or something. For most marginalized groups and those of us who are not white supremacists or religious zealots who want to foist Christianity on the entire populace via the government, going back to their fantasy "ideal" is not at all appealing.

When you say "Most Americans do like America and find many aspects of America to be really great," I agree. American has many great things about it. Those of us who see MAGA for what it is find people who are looking backward instead of looking forward, trying to make America even greater, are telling me something unfavorable about themselves.

This. If Biden wins, it is because there are an awful lot of people who believe that "Make America Great Again" is code for "Let's Go Back to 1960". The Dobbs decision did that to women. Chevron did that to environmental protection laws. Next they are coming for gay rights. And a lot of us do not want to go back to 1960.

A lot of us want to be able to not get car jacked or murdered in downtown DC. So there’s that.

Completely disagree. The two party system forces both sides closer to the center than they otherwise would and avoids the chaos we see in governments like France, where odd bedfellows (even communists) come together to govern without people voting on it.

Really? So why are the Dems in trouble? How did Trump win the last election? Because the Dems resisted/refused to side closer to the center - creating an imbalance!! It's not rocket science.

The dems are in trouble because they didn’t govern from the center. Biden was elected as a moderate who would “return us to normalcy” but swung wildly left once in office. His current attempts to backtrack like with his border executive actions are too little too late for many swing state voters.

Oh, tell us how Trump and the GOP governed from the center. The Democrats do govern from the center, it’s just that the GOP left the center so far behind that they can’t see anyone but their own extremists. “Mandate,” they cry, rolling over the majority opinion.

That's not true at all though. You guys constantly announce that you want to leave the US. And when bad things happen, it's not at all unusual for Dems to say things like "I hate this country!" It doesn't matter whether "again" means like 1960 or 1980 or 2023. You don't like any iteration of the US. You think American flags are a hate symbol. These are extreme anti American views, even if now widely held on the left, ans are not at all centrist. Ten years ago, Democrats thought the US was a pretty good place but now, they can't find anything at all to salvage about it.

That’s what makes me cringe when I hear out of touch liberals keep saying Project 2025 like it’s an epithet toward Trump. Their elitist tunnel vision shows . The majority of the country is not actually going to sit down and read a Republican 500 page pamphlet . Negativity also never sells an election/a candidate . Hope does. You have to provide something . Get real and make an abridged version of a DNC platform with actual economic remedies for the inflation of today instead of denying that inflation is happening because that’s what the President and DNC is doing. I've lived and worked in DC for 20 years and that's never happened to me and unlike people "concerned about crime in DC" out there in Topeka or wherever else, it's not something I sit up at night worrying about. And I think our current chief is doing a great job and crime has come down significantly.

I’ve been to DC a lot and that has never happened to me. How are you writing this from the dead?

On the other hand- I drink water from the tap, enjoy nature and am tired of the climate changed amped heat domes. I am also a woman and own a home and car because I work and can get credit.
Some things are more important to daily life than supposed car jackings.

I would prefer my kids to go to school without active shooter drills and for my daughters and I to get quality women’s health care.

There is no platform that is beneficial to all. This is why governing is hard. In order to maximize benefit for the most people, you must compromise. You need lots of different people representing the myriad of different needs and views to come together and hammer out the compromises that will benefit the most. We will never have a place where everyone is perfectly happy.

And you think the Dems have done this? That's the problem....they haven't. IMHO they have not governed to maximize benefit for the most people. And this is coming from someone who didn't vote for Trump in 2020...but just might this go round...or maybe not vote at all or maybe right in Micky Mouse (just kidding)...but maybe like Sen Collins I'll write in Nikki Haley. It's about time we had a female president - a woman at the helm would straighten us out for sure!

It was Biden that wanted people fired for being unvaccinated, in private companies. He went through with it for government workers. And many who were fired were blacks who voted for Biden.
No worries. He's delayed his ban on menthol cigarettes until after the election to try not to lose more of their votes.

Here’s a little Democrat nugget… all WH workers were exempted, so were CDC workers. HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?
