What are the chances if you are 35 and single you’ll end up married?

Anyone want to share stories? Never married, single 35. Haven’t had a serious boyfriend in years. What are the chances of marriage or kids?

Chances are slim if you are just sitting around, hoping to meet someone by chance. Or, if all your social activities skew heavily female, like book club or crafting.

A friend of mine, who was raised in a very conservative and restrictive household, recently married at the age of 39. She met her husband on an online Christian website and they married within a year of meeting. This was considered very daring in her family and church circles. But they seem very compatible and in love, with shared values. He lived a state away, so they would have never met otherwise.

My brother married at 40 to a woman who was 38. Neither had been married before. They had dated for a year or so. They've always been cagey about how they met, but I'm assuming it was online or at a bar.

I was single at 33 and engaged at 34. Things can progress quickly if you put yourself out there.

If you are ready to settle, it ain't that difficult.

If you are lucky, you may fall in love with a compatible person and they may feel the same. Odds are low but there.

100% if you get out there this weekend (go to happy hour tonight!) and find yourself a nice young man!

0% if you stay at home and write these type of messages on DCUM.

Go for the rich young divorcees who want another family.

I have had a couple friends in this situation who really wanted to be married and have kids.

You date like it's a part-time job. At least 1-2 first dates per week. You are systematic. You are clear what you are looking for and you are smart about having serious conversations regularly early on to weed out men who aren't interested in marriage or family.

In the era of online dating it is entirely possible to meet someone and get married in late 30s and have kids.

In 2011, 31.9% of women age 30-34 were never married. Five years later, when those women were age 35-39, 21.2% of women age 35-44 were never married. This is from table 1 in
https://www.census.gov/library/publications/2021/demo/p70-167.html

So it seems that most people who are single at 35 don't get married by 44, but there are a lot of factors that affect which people do get married and which don't.

Chance of marrying someone and having kids with them is different than chance of having kids. If having kids is very important to you (especially if you want to give birth to them), don't wait around for a significant other.

Agree that the only way to get married is to get out there and meet people. Know what you are looking for, and it will be easier to find.

It means also that roughly 1/3 of these women got married by age 44 which is pretty good indicator. Maybe half of them didn't really look to marry and only those who actively dated found a match. We don't know that.
