Many of us have been cautioned for weeks by Republicans that Dems were going to be blown out all over the DMV because of pressing issues like "covid resentment", "gender identity", and teaching about slavery in schools,.
As it turns out, Glenn's brand of "inventing problems that don't actually exist" that carried him into the governor's mansion failed to interest voters and deliver the Dem Drubbing we were all warned about. Do you think that local Republicans will learn anything by this failed experiment or will they continue making stuff up? I hear that kitty litter is their latest fixation. |
|
The quicker Republicans distance themselves from Trump and the "fake election" the sooner they will be in office.
America is sick to death of Trump and his toxic nature. America was appalled at the storming of the white house. Read those two statements carefully. Now, move on. |

I'm not in Virginia and not familiar with Youngkin or the politics you're talking about but I am curious. Would you mind sharing a couple of details about it?
Is it just Trump politics? |
It’s Christian Nationalism politics— the core and soul of current GOP. Desire to go back/retain a state of things where conservative Christian culture is default and everyone else is, at best, a tolerated guest and, at worst, excluded from society. |
| I sure hope it’s over. The most recent last straw with Youngkin was when he made jokes about the Pelosi assault. The man flew all over the country campaigning for Republican extremists and doesn’t do any work here. He makes up culture war issues and tries to divide people, just like Trump and DeSantis. |
Oh yikes! Thank you for filling me in. |

He's going to run for President, so he's applying for the job he wants and quiet quitting the job he has. He is not focused whatsoever on Virginia state agendas unless they also are national spotlight agendas.
He did run a spectacular gubernatorial campaign compared to McAullife. But once he won that race, his eyes got wider and he is now laser focused on becoming the Republican nominee in 2024. So now he will bend and pivot to whatever will get him that nom. Virginia got screwed by both sides: 1) by the left for shoving down our throat's Terry McAullife as the savior for the democratic nominee when there were other well qualified candidates, and 2) by the moderates who claimed Youngkin was his own brand, was a moderate and would focus on Virginia issues. McAullife handed Youngkin the election in the debate when he said that parents should not be involved in their children's public school education. Politico did a 15 min podcast re this campaign, that moment and how Youngkin won. It's worth listening to because I am sure he's got the same people working on this next campaign. |

Here is the 2021 Politico podcast on the Youngkin campaign. It is not long and IMO it is very interesting. Regardless of your political affiliation it is worth a listen because if you're a dem you want to hear what you did wrong and how they took advantage of it.

| Youngkin's influence and $$$ didn't win his buddy Sang Yi the Fairfax City mayor seat...the glow is certainly off him in Northern VA, but I can't speak to the rest of the state. |
| I mean, Youngkin actually got elected, so I think the story here is different from what you're trying to do. |
DP in NOVA. Yes, and. Youngkin campaigned on a lot of "school issues" ("CRT," school choice, parent involvement), and at least in NOVA, he seemed to get some support from suburban moms fed up with the schools' responses to Covid and online learning. His campaign also kept Trump from coming to campaign for him, knowing that would hurt him in NOVA. That, and people were just not excited about McAuliffe. Youngkin seemed to capitalize on this image of himself as a harmless sweater-vest-wearing conservative with some distance between himself and Trump, when actually his policies are perfectly in line with GOP culture wars. He set up a tip line for parents to call in complaints about their kids' teachers teaching CRT; he's trying to gut public education; he thinks Confederate monuments are great; he's pro-life; he's pro-guns. His endorsed-and-campaigned-for candidate in the Fairfax City Mayoral race appears to have lost. I think if Youngkin had been on the ballot yesterday, he wouldn't be our governor. Everything points to his own presidential bid soon, so keep an eye on him. |
I don't think he would have been elected this year. Times are different, issues are different. |
Worse. He's smarter and comes off more liable He's a POS who lies daily. |
City of Fairfax resident who is so happy that Yi lost the mayor's race. Our next mayor will be our first woman mayor! |
| I agree with the poster who says Trumpism is the issue. I am a moderate who would actually love to vote Republican since the Dem party’s extreme progressive side is alarming, but I voted Dem in Gov and Senate for Maryland because the Republican opponents were both election-denying loonies. |
