So what happens when I reach my target weight?

Let’s say I’ve been dieting and reach my fat percentage goal ( pretend that’s -20lbs loss). what happens next?

If I start eating normally and fill carb stores, that will put on ~5 lbs. is this when I will feel the improved body and have more energy?

If you eat how you were eating before you will go back to the weight you were

I meant to say to eat normally at the new weight where you don’t gain.

I assume you are following some kind of plan in which you had to input goals. Once you hit your target, you would need to create a new plan for "maintenance" or some other goal. For me, it was maintaining exercise levels but eating slightly more. Not the way I used to eat, but about 200 calories more than my "diet" plan.

Odds on are that you’ll regain it. If I were you I’d try to keep eating the way you do now and see if you keep dropping.

Were you doing a 500 cal deficit or more?

Hungry is the way of life over 40...

You learn how to eat to maintain it.

This. Workout for health not weight loss.

You will have to continue eating the way you did to lose it. Otherwise your body will continue to put weight back on to get back to where it was before. Is that sustainable?

Physics is hard.

No, you don’t need the same calorie deficit to maintain that you needed to lose.

Exactly. PP is also no doubt in the “all of this is impossible” camp and the “all we know about obesity is wrong” camp.

Meanwhile, people lose and then maintain weight all the time.

OP - if you are good with what you are doing and conformable, keep it. If you eat a little differently you aren’t going to gain the weight back overnight. You’ll figure out what works pretty easily and intuitively.

Depends on your age. I did not start a yo-yo until I hit my mid 40s. I was thin my entire life and when I hit about 44 suddenly I went from zero to a size 4 and then to a size 6 and now I’m at a 4 to 6 often on etc.

and this is why you should lose the weight eating the same way you plan on maintaining the weight loss.

to maintain you simply eat a little more/add in more calories of the same things you are currently eating. The way you do this it to slowly increase calories while tracking weight to see what it takes to level off (not losing or gaining, but maintaining weight knowing t is normal for a 2-3 lbs weight fluctuations)

Losing weight is easy. Maintaining the weight after you lose it is more challenging. To maintain it, you will need to do the same thing to lose the weight and a bit more.
