If you are tracking food/portions and are not losing weight

Anonymous
I have been very diligent with food and portion tracking this entire month. I have lost 1 lb. 1 pound in 26 days. What imbalance or hormonal issue could cause this and what do I do now. I would like to lose 20-30. I am 20 pounds above my goal weight. I am a woman, 52 years old. I walk 6 miles a day and lift weights twice a weak, not heavy because I have joint issues. So frustrating. If anyone has been successful breaking this type of stall, I’d appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

Have you had your thyroid checked lately?

You’re tracking but how many calories are you eating?

1 pound in 26 days is on the slow side but it’s not nothing. There’s no hormonal imbalance. You just need to restrict your calories more if you want to lose faster. With only 20 pounds to lose you shouldn’t expect this to be a fast process.

Are you weighing everything on a kitchen scale? When I weigh each ingredient and compare it to the calculations I did by volume, the difference can end up quite large.

OP. Thyroid says normal but I wonder. 1500 - 1800 cals a day. I am measuring and meal prepping. Maybe I need to drink even more water.

Food tracking does nothing for me. And never has - to me it is ocd and just makes me even more stressed out and worried. It is in itself disordered.

No, you need to eat less.

Nah.

Sounds more like OP needs more rest and food. Body under stress and thus SLOWS down. Maybe a few days of high carb, low fat, med protein. 20 mins of weight lifting 3x a week.

1800 calories is enough to maintain an obese weight for me when I’m not doing cardio, and I’m quite tall. You need to adjust down.

She’s been dieting for three weeks and eating 1500-1800 calories. This isn’t a situation of chronic dieting with too little calories having slowed down the metabolism. She just needs to reduce her calories by a hundred or two a day to lose a bit faster.

Can you give us an idea of what you're eating each day? Including what you drink (esp alcohol)

Agree. Stick to 1300-1500. You can eat back your exercise calories if you burn enough. I am short and can lose 1 lb a week or so at 13-1400. And if I burn 200 calories I eat them back. But you have to make sure it’s intense exercise and better to underestimate your burn a little. I went from 118 to 112 in just a few months doing this recently and I didn’t feel deprived.

how tall are you?

I don’t count calories at all - only carbs - and I’ve found it makes a huge difference for weight loss. I’m not saying to go keto, that is unnecessary, but if you could keep your carbs below 100 g a day I’d bet you’d see much faster results.
