A supervisor at the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation has confirmed that the property tax account for County Council candidate Natali Fani-Gonzalez and her husband, Angel Gonzalez, is under review for illegal receipt of 100% tax exemption following a greatly exaggerated military disability claim.

The person who wrote this understands very little about VA disability. A veteran can be 100% without being "so disabled that he or she requires round-the-clock care to stay alive." In addition, a veteran can have a 100% rating and still be able to ride a bicycle - ratings include psychological disabilities, brain injuries, and many other things that might not prevent physical activity even with a 100% rating. There can also be a combined 100% rating from multiple disabilities. The excerpts from the court decision don't include his overall rating and therefore may not be relevant. This sounds potentially bad, but it's hard to trust anything this article says. |
Yes. It's like for disabled parking permits, and people calling out drivers that appear to have full use of their bodies. You never know what disabilities they have!!! |
| I know a 100% disabled veteran who is a judge. No visible disabilities btw. |
Sorry but you’re just making a lot of assumptions and gross misrepresentations. A 100% rating is a severe disability. To qualify a TBI or psychological/psychiatric disability as 100% requires prior hospitalization and a pretty serious diagnosis that would prevent someone from ever being considered a productive worker. |
False. To retain 100% disability first of all means that you cannot work. |
| It seems that the Planning Board has been an ethics free environment for a long time. |
Right? So many issues. Such a corrupt county. |
I also never said that 100% isn't severe. You can also have a 100% psych disability without a prior hospitalization, although the symptoms for a 100% rating are very severe. What "gross misrepresentation" did I make? The article had many things that are incorrect that I pointed out. There are some people with 100% ratings who can ride a bike. Many other couldn't. |
That isn't true - you can't work if you have total disability rating based on individual unemployability (TDIU), which is when your combined rating is less than 100% but there is a finding you can't work. If you have a scheduler 100% rating you are allowed to work if you actually can despite your disabilities. Most people with a 100% rating can't possibly work, but some do. There can be a 100% rating for profound hearing loss, for example, and a person could still work in some jobs. |
These are rare edge cases and if you do work it reduces your benefits. There is zero evidence that this woman’s husband is one of these edge cases and it’s notable that she refuses to answer the direct question of what her husbands disability determination is. She owes an explanation. |
As a Vet you are not going to get a 100% psychological disability without the level of severity that necessitates hospitalization. Maybe you were unlucky not to get inpatient treatment. But back to the topic at hand, the candidate can clear all of this up with some transparency and disclosure. Why won’t she? |
Yeah, you are right that this could easily be cleared up. |
Instead of clearing it up she feigns indignity and unsuccessfully tries to present as a victim. She’s really bad at this and her thread reeks of someone caught red handed. |
Right. I have no dog in this fight, not in her district, but my husband has a TBI. You'd really never know by looking at him, although his gait is unsteady at times. But the man can't think well at all. He's losing his language and executive functioning. He also lost his sense of smell and accidently left on an unignited gas stove burner, filling the house with gas. Basically, I need to babysit him. But he could ride a bike. He walks the dog. He does not drive a car. Let DAT investigate. But don't crucify her for this without knowing more. You just don't know. And imagine if you are engaging in online mob attacks against someone who is truly disabled. This world would be a whole lot better if people had a little patience and compassion. |
