Just like the Homestead Exemption, the rules for the Veterans Disability Exemption are clear. The VA has determined that her husband does not have a 100% disability and this was confirmed on appeal. At minimum she should not receive the exemption from the date of the appellate opinion and because the appeal confirms the judgement of the 30% disability in 2020, between 2020-2022 there should have been no award of benefits either due to eligibility.

Saying the “corresponding agency has confirmed…” is total nonsense and deflection from the facts at issue.

None of the things you have posted are accurate. First, the appeals court opinion does not only talk about the shoulder (hint: you need to read the footnotes in legal documents). Second, there is not automatic mechanism by which the VA transmits this information to the state and the county. Like the Homestead Exemption and in fact all other taxes, it requires self-reporting.

Look friend, if your house is no longer your primary residence you need to self-report that to SDAT. Most people don’t worry about that too much because when you buy a house and move within Maryland a certification of domicile for homestead exemption is signed with the closing documents and filed with the deed registration. So it gets updated pretty easily. However if you keep your home in MD and move out of state, you would need to contact your county or SDAT directly.

With this veteran’s disability exemption it is 100% initiated by the property owner. So they need to file the paperwork to report eligibility themselves and update their eligibility themselves.

The truth is, even if they *did* falsely claim the benefit- she will win easily anyway.

Her husband has a history of financial mismanagement. He’s been sued in Maryland courts over 10 times for failure to pay debts. Add that context to this situation and it’s hard not to see it as willful shenanigans.

Talk about missing the point. The issue is that we’re stuck with someone who has questionable decision making, at best and is thin skinned about transparency. These are bad things for an elected official. Montgomery County is screwed.

You are not stuck with anyone. You have a choice. Vote for Doan. He actually sounds pretty qualified for the job. He has my vote.

The point is that you don’t have to vote for Fani-Gonzalez. There is another option. It’s just that nobody in this County will ever vote for a Republican. Even when the Democrat candidate is clearly inferior.

THAT is why Montgomery County so screwed. Because voters aren’t actually voting for candidates. They just vote strictly Democrat at all costs.
