Blair is BIG!

I went to the Blair open house last night. Holy smokes, that’s a gigantic school! 3200 students? How many students per average class, like 9th grade English? How does your Blair student fare? I try to imagine my kid starting there next year and am having trouble picturing it.

Class size is not affected by school size. They have 132 teachers, which is about double as many as Northwood.

The school's total enrollment of 3,600 makes it the largest public high school in Montgomery County, as well as Maryland as a whole.

MBHS has over 95 teams or clubs, some of which are entirely student-run, including the Blair Radio Station, "Blazer Pride" Marching Band, Debate Team, and Jewish Culture Club and Philosophy Club.

When i worked there years ago there were 3 lunches, starting at 10:30am. Not sure about now.

My current school is large but only 1 lunch.

Some of my kid’s AP classes have 15-20 students. Higher level language classes seem to be on the smaller side. Honors classes are larger—about 35 students. The size of the school doesn’t bother my introverted kid. He says there is plenty of activities to do at lunch or after school.

I love how proponents of super size schools always taught the depth of obscure clubs available and skirt around the impact of academics, administration, and discipline at an unmanageably large school.

Blair may be huge, but it runs like a well oiled machine with. Top notch admin. I think the pp with the clubs might be mistaking the TV studio/news show BNC for a radio station, or maybe she’s thinking about the podcasts the kids do.

Welcome, OP!

But size does mean you have more class options and even greater differentiation!

Just facts.

Blair also has an award-winning student newspaper.

+1 the school is well run. I am impressed by the admin/ counselor communication with parents/Blair community.

This is par for the course at a lot of overcrowded schools regardless of level that some kids are having lunch at 10:50 and some kids are having lunch at 1:30
