I had someone tell me this today. I was browsing for the mini tote that’s on sale: https://www.toryburch.com/en-us/handbags/tote-bags/ella-printed-mini-tote-bag/140095.html?color=960
I feel like I’m missing something but I see quite a large number of ladies locally here in the DMV that wear her logo and items (shoes, bags). I thought the brand was just quite popular. Like lululemon. |
How old was the person who told you that?
Some people in the DMV think Coach and Tory Burch isn't high brow enough, because so many people wear it/can afford it. |
That bag pattern is cute, but it is pretty obvious with the BIG look at me logo. That said, I think Tory Burch is a fine brand in general. I have one bag, but the logo & bag are monochrome and very subtle. |
I like it but I would also wear huge Chanel or LV logos if I could afford them. Big logos are not for everyone, and some people won’t wear any brand sold in outlet stores because it’s too mass market. |
The thing about TB and Coach and Kate Spade is they are a flashy logo and while they're not cheap, they're not "expensive" either. So someone who buys those items is clearly looking to advertise their brand to the world - but for a basic mall brand that 30% of the population can afford. So what's the point? ANd what does it say about the wearer?
Seems better to just spend a lot less money, or buy something the same price but without the flashy label. |
+1. I like the pattern on that bag but personally wish the logo were smaller. |
I wouldn’t go all the way to trashy, but I am not partial to big logos. I’d like that bag a lot more with a smaller logo. |
Late 50s but they are very much styled like Meryl Streep in the Devil Wears Prada. Wears a cape in the fall/winter, patent high heels, etc.. we are colleagues. I am 36 fwiw. |
Where does Marc Jacobs fit in this hierarchy? |
Displaying any brand at all is tacky and gauche. |
I think a lot of people think logos are tacky. |
I don't think TB in general is trashy, and that bag is actually cute though not my thing (and I don't like big logos). But I'm a big believe in wear what you love and who cares what anyone else thinks. |
I don’t think it’s trashy! I guess I think the logo flats and bags are kind of basic. And not very elegant, sort of “young” looking if you will. Some of ger clothes are quite nice, though. |
I don't claim to have spectacular taste or anything but I don't like big logos of any kind. I saw a photo of Kim Kardashian today wearing head to toe Balenciago including these earrings that looked like business cards that just said "Balenciaga" on them. She was probably wearing several thousand dollars worth of clothing and I looked at those earrings and just thought "tacky". I don't get walking around as an advertisement for the brand you are wearing. I'd be more interested in something innately beautiful or eye-catching that makes me want to ask "excuse me but where did you get that bag? it's really pretty."
But it's a personal preference and I get a lot of people disagree. I don't judge people when I see them carrying a Tory Burch purse, but I also don't want to emulate their look. It's okay. There are more important things in life. |
For lower end purses my take on hierarchy from lowest up is:
Coach Kate Spade Michael Kors Tory Burch Marc Jacobs |
