MIL is driving me insane

Anonymous
This is purely a vent. Thank the lord she’ll be leaving on Sunday.

Just the latest example of how she makes everything about her: we are looking to adopt a puppy. We found out we can move to the next step in the adoption process and are excited. It would be a lab puppy. Her response? “Oh you know I don’t like those big dogs. (BIL) has those two goldens and I hate it. Well, if I don’t like your dog, I just won’t visit.”

I wanted to just say, “great, then don’t visit!”

Maybe I should have said that.

Win win! She won’t visit and you get the dog you want.

Just play along. "Oh of COURSE you'll love OUR dog though! Labs are always so friendly and sweet with people. It's going to be such a good way for us to get out walking and playing more. We're excited!"

She's totally gonna hate your dog - and you'll love that!!

You have a very low threshold for 'driving someone insane' She is just making conversation. You are making a mountain out of a molehill

I could go ahead and list easily two dozen more examples. She has an incredible ability to make everything into a pity party about her.

I think both you and her are thoughtless.

Sounds like a Debbie Downer. “Hopefully somewhere in there you’re also happy for us.”

“Wow, Madge! If I’d known it was so easy I would have adopted Rover years ago.”
