I flew into Dulles around the time of the shift change of the TSA workers and they were discussing where to go for a hot meal at a soup kitchen since they're not getting paid. Disgraceful America--to treat its employees this way.

Now that the GOP is floating that federal employees (including military) won't get back pay, the sick-outs will start in earnest. I truly hope the ATC nationwide, do a single day, en masse, to end this crap now.

The existing law requires back pay so the CR would have to reverse that. I doubt any dem would vote for it if it did.

Speaker Johnson talked about it today. We live in an authoritarian and lawless government now, so CR's and what not are quaint.

It really is. And Congress is getting paid even though they aren't doing their jobs.

People are learning this administration doesn't actually believe in laws and following them, and that fact is going to affect their everyday lives.

Aren’t all federal employees going to get paid around mid October for the pay period that ended just before the shutdown?

Vought is saying won't uphold the back pay laws passed by Congress, and disgustingly Johnson is fine with that.

No, they voted against a CR that does not extend the temporary COVID subsidy increase.

I’m a Dem but oh. I did not realize what Ds were arguing about was a subsidy bump up that was intended to be temporary during the pandemic. Not loving that. But kudos to them re: messaging - I had no idea this was the hill they were dying on.

Ftr, Dems are not fighting for a "temporary" bump but for an expansion of the ACA that was enacted during the pandemic, an expansion that should have happened earlier but had been blocked. The justification was the pandemic but the need had already been there.

When the ACA was enacted, it was supposed to be modified to work as intended and instead has been modified to work less well. The expansion fixed some of this. Dems and Reps know this, they just haven't figured out the messaging yet.

It was temporary for covid when people had lost all their jobs and we're not able to work. Should we continue other pandemic policies indefinitely? What about WW2 subsidies?

How about infinite stimulus checks , Everytime their is a depression keep sending them regardless !! Lol Dems are so funny

I hope you sent yours back!

Yeah. Nobody has missed a paycheck yet. The TSA probably is demoralized, and they may be concerned that they need to hold onto that next paycheck for expenses when the one following is missed. Maybe some also get SNAP? But talk of soup kitchens at this point is probably gallows humor.

Yes, but they won’t get paid after that. One has to plan for not getting a paycheck, so I am not spending money right now in the event this goes on and on (I need to pay bills!).

Yeah but what happens after that, genius?

It's not going to be a full paycheck. I'm a GS9 and I assume they take deductions first, so the missing days will be hitting the remaining amount (take home) hard.

TSA workers are people who cannot afford to miss even one paycheck. I believe that this Friday is the paycheck date for the pay period that ended last Friday. That paycheck will be shorted by three days (October 1-3). And that will be the last check they see until a CR passes. With Vought and Johnson now threatening to not pay them for the end of last week and indefinitely going forward, you're going to see a lot of them taking leave so they can work fast food or something.

It’s not gallows humor when you don’t make a lot and you may not get a paycheck after the 15th. People have tight budgets and even one paycheck could put them in arrears. Also, some contractors may be on a different pay schedule. In anticipation of not getting paid for X number of weeks, I spent far less at the grocery store last weekend, relying on previously-prepared frozen meals and vegetarian dishes that are cheaper than meat. While it’s possible this will end in the coming weeks, I will absolutely miss a paycheck because I am a furloughed contractor. I still ahve bills to pay, along with my college kids’ rents.
