DM is hands-down the best recruiter for the area boys. His NL teams have done great with their recruiting and its ALL up to DM being proactive. Kicked ML, DCE and Hawks butts. Works the coaches on the sidelines and has more of his 24 and 25s landed than any of the other metro area squads. So if all Bullis got was his recruiting expertise that is a huge win for them.

That is not how recruiting works. All those clubs play the same events. NL just had better players for those years. The coaches pick the best players. The club director can lead them to exposure but does not get them an offer.

Anonymous wrote:why would Speaks want to leave SJC if the next school president, Haley, is pro-lacrosse?

I'm not following whoever is speculating Speaks wants out of Military road.

If Speaks wants to give the D1 college ranks a shot, that is totally normal.

Speaks is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Cadets will come back down to reality this Spring.

Soon meaning after this season.

Who replaces Speaks at SJC if he leaves this summer?

The former VA Fogo? But I doubt Speaks is leaving. He's got a sweet gig with his fake real job at SJC.

All the DMV Coaches hope Speaks leaves SJC. Guy outworks them everyday.

All the other coaches have full time jobs in the building.

Speaks is a glorified PE teacher.

I agree with this 100%.

Agree and disagree here--DM is def a great recruiter, but only at the club level. Did not have the same success convincing players to schlep out to Hyattsville, which may be more a factor of Dematha's location that anything to do with DM. As far as X's and O's go, he's nothing special and he has a pretty thin track record of developing players. But if you want a guy who can poach/steal other team's players, yeah he's the one. Big used car salesman energy and will promise anything to anyone.

This part--"Kicked ML, DCE and Hawks butts"--isn't really accurate. Hawks and DCE are both better than NL at 2025. DCE is better than NL at 2026 and Hawks are about equal. 2027 NL is stronger than all the other clubs. 2028 Hawks are better and DCE and NL are even.

ML is another story, I'll let other people beat that dead horse.

Father with players at different schools who played at a high level. Once Bordley retired Speaks rose to the top of coaches in the DMV. Nothing but respect for what he has done.

We are talking apples and oranges here. He may be good at recruiting kids to NL that is one thing but the OP states that he is good at "getting kids recruited by working coaches on the sidelines" this would suggest that he is at tournaments approaching coaches during games trying to convince them to consider his players. First, that would be a bad idea and would turn coaches away. Second, once they get to the event the club coach does not "convince" a college coach to take a kid. That is not how it works. I remember when they used to day the black wolf guy was worth all the baggage because he could get a kid recruited. It worked when good kids showed up for his teams. Look what happened once the talent stopped showing up. In my opinion the greatest recruiting to get kids into the NL program is CM he should get the job.

Stud coach and glorified PE teacher are not mutually exclusive. To the contrary, they go hand in hand. can anyone name a top level DMV HS lacrosse coach who is a genuine teacher in a serious subject like math or history?
