If you eat a breakfast sandwich in the morning

And then feel the need to fast the rest of the day (and then feel guilty when you don’t), how messed up is that? How do you unlearn these feelings? Do you just not eat the breakfast sandwich?

You need to heal your disordered relationship with food.

It's not a quick or easy process, but eating a breakfast sandwich is completely normal. It is completely NOT normal to then fast the rest of the day.

OP here. Thank you. I think you are right but it’s just so hard to cut through the noise. I am “normal” weight but one of those people that needs to go hungry or eat strict keto to maintain a 24 BMI. IF and OMAD are accepted diet techniques. Where is the line?

No dieting. It's not healthy for you. If you have to go hungry to maintain this "normal" weight, it is not the weight your body is meant to be.

OP here. Thank you all. I have an infant daughter and I desperately want to teach her healthy habits and body image. Has anyone done that successfully even if you yourself are still a work in progress?

That’s pretty bad. Especially because a normal breakfast sandwich isn’t particularly indulgent and not enough calories for a whole day.

Kids Eat in Color is great resource for how to talk about food with your daughter as she grows. Check her out on IG.

Are you really aiming to limit yourself to a few hundred calories per day? You do not want your body and metabolism to get adjusted to that kind of restriction. No one should feel guilty about eating more than once a day! I ate more than that when I was <90 pounds with an obvious ED.

I did not even weigh myself during my daughter's tween and teen years. We had all kinds of food in the house and she learned that everything is OK in moderation. I never skipped a meal, never dieted (maybe briefly after younger DS was born) and never mentioned my own body or my feelings about it. It was easy for me to do this because my own mother caused so much damage to my body image - I basically just had to do the opposite.

I was doing OMAD and when my doctor found out, she made me stop. She said OMAD is disordered eating and basically a form of binge eating.

I had good success with it, too, but I've since started seeing a therapist who specializes in disordered eating and am in the process of healing my bad eating habits.

Mine stems from having a mom who is a "12 almonds keeps me going for hours" type of person. Learning to deal with her comments like "you're hungry for lunch? Really? Wow! I mean, we had the same eggs and toast for breakfast and I'm good to go until dinner."

OP if you like a breakfast sandwich once in a while, enjoy it. Please don't beat yourself up about eating it.

Just wanted to say thank you for doing this for your daughter. It’s so important and hard for many women to do.

I mean, this is not good and is sad for you.

But, breakfast sandwiches can be very high calorie and throw a healthy diet of of whack.

Are you buying them? Making them? If the later, can you use mini versions of the bread so instead of an 800 calorie breakfast bomb you eat a 400 calorie one? Or if buying, cut in half for tomorrow or share with someone and add fruit?

^ Immediate PP here. My point is that you should be able to eat what you like in moderation most of the time without feeling bad.

I had a delicious croque-madame for lunch: it's a French grilled sandwich with ham and cheese, with an egg on top (the monsieur version has no egg). Not a vegetable in sight!
