Did anyone see that child ask M. Obama about immigration?

Is this girl risking her families status? She said that her mother was not here legally.
Mom should have been more careful and had a chat with her daughter if she knew that M. Obama would be there.

I don't know why you're saying that. I'm sorry if your 2nd grader can't talk about political issues that are a reality in his world.
Mine can. He knows what's our situation here and we often say "if one day I meet Obama on the street I'm so gonna ask him about the terms in my work permit!" and our 2nd grader knows exactly what we're talking about.

If I were Mrs. Obama I would have said: "Your Mom is ignorant. The President did not make that law, it was the state of AZ. Secondly, the President does not make laws. Are you sure your Mom is a legal resident?"

You would have said that to an 8-year-old child? Wonderful response. You're a piece of work.

It's not Mrs. Obama's fault the parent is giving the child bad information. Seriously, though, don't you think the question was asinine?

I'm a Pre-K teacher in Columbia Heights. Most of the children in my class are Latino, and half of their parents don't have legal papers. The Latino community is scared and misinformation abounds.

Honestly, I blame the parents of the 8-year-old child. Why would you place the weight of that problem on the shoulders of an eight-year-old? Especially a problem that is all the mother's fault? There is no need for the mother to have told the child that she was in the country illegal.

And I have close family members who are/were illegal, so I'm not an illegal hater. I agree that there needs to be immigration reform, but why worry a child with something you did wrong?

MO should have asked for the child's address.

Or better yet, she should have asked her to say thank you to the Feds, State, and County taxpayers for giving her this free education.

Why? To rout her family out like criminals?

You sound so ignorant. Most people who are here legally actually have a tax payer ID number and do pay taxes. Just because you didn't get here legally or just because you got to an illegal status (expired visa or greencard, for example), it doesn't mean you are just sucking the rest of the country dry.

Of course. These illegals are terrible people for wanting to better their and their children's lives.
And, don't even go there with all the "my ancestors came here legally and so should they" BS. Many of the european ancestors came here BEFORE immigration laws were in place and many came here illegally afterwards.

Where do you think derogatory terms like "WOP" came from? WOP= without papers.

PS-
I'm only twice removed from my ancestors who came here "off the boat" from Europe. Many of my old relatives did not speak ANY English. I don't know their status as being illegal or not or for how long. But, they bettered their lives and those of their families, who are all now "successful" people.
