Is this a Fox News talking point? (Defecating in the streets of NYC)

Anonymous
Just got off the phone with my republican mom who lives in a red, rural area and watches Fox News. We avoid any political talk but sometimes these things sneak in. She was saying how much she misses travel because of the pandemic (my parents thankfully have taken it seriously and have been fully vaxed/double boosted, wear masks, etc.) and that one day she wants to get back to NYC for a weekend but.....

Mom: "I guess now would be an awful time to do it - you know the stench is horrible - with all the defecating in the streets and all."

Me: "What? Who is defecating in the streets?"

Mom: "Oh you know, they have so many more homeless people just on the streets, taking over."

Me: offering a little counter argument...to which she responds: "I've seen pictures!"

What is this fox news talking point? Same one they've always used about blue cities being horrible? Or something new?

It's always been amazing how people in rural red state America always seem to think they know so much more about what's going on in cities they never even visit than the people who actually live there do.

Hubris fueled by propaganda.

Defecating in the corridors of the Capitol on 1/6 is constitutionally protected because it is deeply rooted in American history and tradition according to Justice Alito

Homeless defecate in bus shelters in DC. Lots of threads about it.

I’m sure it happens but conservatives who think democrats who live in big cities are the devil love to act like there’s human feces every 2 feet on every sidewalk. It’s a way to let people know they’re better than those awful democrats, they’d never poop on a sidewalk in their town of 5,000 where everyone knows everyone, the unhoused population is zero, and most streets don’t have stoplights, much less sidewalks. Also, when they poop outside it’s called roughing it.

I live near San Francisco and there’s definitely poop on the sidewalks, especially since a lot of places have closed restrooms to the public during the pandemic. I saw a guy taking a dump on a high traffic sidewalk just outside the BART station in my east bay town a few months ago. I assume it’s a mix of mental illness and convenience, both for the unhoused people crapping on the sidewalks and the conservatives acting like it’s a bigger deal than it is.

I have no idea about NYC but I’ve seen it with my own eyes in SF and LA and it’s not a fox talking point. Well maybe it is, but it’s also reality. It’s actually really disgusting. Not just poop but also pee which contributes to the foul smell.

SF has tried to clean up some of the worst areas more over the past few months but there’s a reason those crews go through so often - because they’re needed.

Put them on a bus to Texas, they can camp in Greg Abbott's front lawn.

I'm only half kidding - A lot of the homeless get shipped around the country to be foisted onto cities like NYC, San Francisco and DC. Send them back home. https://californiahealthline.org/morning-breakout/nevada-sends-hundreds-of-mentally-ill-patients-to-california-other-states/

Where are the homeless supposed to poop? They’re homeless.

I was in NYC 2 weeks ago. Trash in tons of places and yes there was poop in some areas. Gross.
Not as bad a San Fran though. You foot look at their poop map site. The whole city is covered in poop.

I moved to NYC in the fall of 2001. When I got off the train, the very first thing I saw, was a homeless guy peeing against the wall of the subway.
Thanks Biden!

That's actually a good idea. We can keep the immigrants and send the homeless back to their own states..

2001 or 2021?

I blame the Mayors who run these cities for the issue. The worst is San Fran where is there poop everywhere, also needles and other drug paraphernalia all over the streets. It’s disgusting and dangerous.

And your statement is true for so many blue state DCUM posters who frequently make disparaging comments about "rubes" and "uneducated, ignorant, meth-addicted rednecks" in red states.
