| If you are the type of poster who always finds fault and is mean to the OP, what gives? |
| I’m sure you’ll get meaningful responses with zero details or examples of what you’re referring to |
|
Are we talking about truly mean behavior, or are we talking about:
A) Someone disagreeing with someone else B) Someone not automatically, knee-jerk supporting the OP? Because there’s mean, and then there are different viewpoints or even questions that gets labeled “troll” or “mean.” Those are all different things. |
| Because some people on here have lonely, empty lives and will take any attention they can get. |
| There are always abusive posters on threads. Always. |

Op here,
I'm referring to when someone asks a question because they are trying to solve a problem or get advice, and everyone starts piling on about something irrelevant. Ex. The post about the suspended license. The OP is asking about if a mistake was made (and then found that it was) and people piled on about "You were speeding!!" "You are a danger to society!". Like if this person paid their fines, went to court, etc... Why do these posters think they are the arbiter of justice? Even more-so in the child rearing fora. Someone asks a simple question. Then gets completely reamed about how they are a terrible parent for even considering XYZ. |
| Some of the mean posters can be really funny. If they are, it's worth it IMO. If they're not going for humor then yeah, I don't really get it. |
| They’re lonely, pathetic people. I always report them. |
| It's because these are the thoughts that are going through people's heads all the time but in real life we normally don't have access to them because most people are very good at censoring themselves in verbal interactions with others. On this anonymous forum, however, where people also have zero stake in the outcome of anything, it's like mental diarrhea, it all comes out uncensored through their fingers to the keyboard. It's a totally different form of interacting and you have to get used to it. It doesn't indicate there are more mean people here, it indicates that many people have mean thoughts and reactions but mostly don't let them out due to negative consequences they aren't willing to endure. |
| Anonymity has its drawbacks |
DP but do you really need examples? |
Or was the PP trying to be funny by giving an example of a snarky answer? OP, I've resolved to leave this forum more times than I can count. I've frequently wished for a "no-judgment" forum where people could seek advice, commiserate, or vent without having someone offer an unsolicited opinion or tell them that their problems are of their own making. As others said, there are just stunted people who get off on attacking or mocking others for fun or to make themselves feel better about their miserable lives. |
| It’s much easier to spew out whatever first comes to mind than it is to craft a thoughtful, helpful response. |
+1 |
| To be fair a lot of posters are asking things like “my sil let’s my nieces eat fruit at breakfast and as a snack. Is it ok for me to tell her not to let her kids eat fruit while we’re staying at the same beach house!” |
