It’s like a Whole Foods for organics and specialty food merged with a Costco for bulk items (“family packs”) merged with a Harris Teeter for general groceries merged with an amazing food court. Prices are always good and the environment is stellar. It’s worth the half hour each way drive for me right now
Wegmans is no where near as good as Whole Foods and it’s always crowded. The aisles are narrow and everything is overpriced. I rarely shop there. It’s completely overhyped. And their milk sucks!
The Wegman’s stores that I’ve been to (about 3) are quite a lot better than the Whole Foods stores that I’ve been to (about 8), at least in their current form. I used to be a total fan of Whole Foods, and, before that, of Fresh Fields. They gradually shifted the mix of their produce from mostly organic to mostly conventional products, and, at least at the store I frequent the most, neither the variety nor the quality is quite what it used to be, although many of the 365 brand products are still good values. Once the Wegman’s opens, I’ll shift my big shops to Wegman’s, even though it will be less convenient.
