Amateur Hour Part II: Your kitchen/recipe mistakes

- I sat a Pyrex style pan filled with ribs (precooking, then transferring to the outdoor grill) on the stove when I took them out. The burner was still hot and it exploded just as my guests had walked in the kitchen to say hi. It was like a bomb of glass and pork ribs. We ordered pizza while everyone helped me clean the kitchen.

- On my first Thanksgiving I left the second bag in the bird. I had taken out the neck and stuff, but there was secondary bag behind that.

- In high school we had international night, except all of the students were supposed to cook something from their assigned country. I made garlic bread soup. I adapted the recipe and added more garlic because I couldn't really taste it. Well after sitting (in a crockpot) the garlic became so intense. One of the judges declared us safe from vampires for the remainder of the year.

For a date, I hand washed romaine lettuce and didn't use a salad spinner or properly dry after ... just shook it a little bit. soooo gross, watery salad dressing.

We had Pyrex explode too. My husband put a Pyrex lid fresh out of the oven in the sink and ran cold water over. It exploded. Luckily, the dish of food was out range and did not get glass in it. He never made that mistake again.

My dad tried cooking lentils in the pressure cooker. Not sure what he did wrong. The pressure cooker exploded. Luckily, nobody was hurt. My mom had to scrape lentils off the kitchen ceiling. That was the last time my dad was allowed to use the pressure cooker.

I fried something in our fryer (this was before air fryers). It had super hot oil in it. I forget what I put into the fryer but it was frozen and had ice crystals. The oil splattered on the counters, cabinets and even hit the ceiling. It was bad.

After everything cooled off, my DW threw out my fryer. We do not fry anything anymore in our house.
