I have planned a trip this saturday that involves pool time with my kids, and period just comes. I am not a tampon person, and I don't plan to swim. My kids need my help to look after in the shallow pool because they are non- swimmer. It is too late to cancel the plan, so we have to go to meet other friends there. They are 1-2 feet deep on that side. My kids are looking forward to it.
How do I dress not to make myself feeling awkward but can pull off these few hours? Should I go get a bathing shorts and wear underwear underneath? Is that waterproof? |
| No, it’s not waterproof. If you can’t wear a tampon or a cup, you can’t go into the pool. |
+1 Send your spouse or reschedule. |

You can buy period underwear and period swimwear, but not sure if it's available in brick and mortar.
You said 1-2 feet so are your hips out of the water? Fine to go in underwear if so. |

I love bathing shorts to wear over my swimsuit anyway. That way when I'm lounging on the pool chair I'm not worried about whether I'm giving anyone a view. So I don't think you'll regret buying a pair. You can wear underwear and a pad if you're not going to get that part of your body wet. If there was an emergency and you got it wet for a minute, you could just go change your pad right away. Bring an extra pair of underwear just in case.
And for the future, get a period swimsuit. Nice to have options! |
NP but I'd never heard of this and wanted to say thank you! |
| No, even though you won't be swimming you shouldn't be splashing around in the shallow pool with your kids. To clarify, I know you wont be actually splashing water but there will be lots of splashing around while you're helping your kids. I would cancel. |

Why can’t you just wear a tampon?
I went to the pool with a mom who had her period. I had to care for her kids who were fighting and splashing other kids. I was so beyond annoyed at her and her lack of tampon use. |
Because being near water and fun on your period may harm others 🙄 |
Not at all. She's wearing a pad. There's no worse feeling than a wet/damp pad. Wouldnt be a big deal to me to skip the pool, I'd rather not deal with that. |
How do these prevent the blood from releasing in the pool as soon as the suit is wet? With the period underwear, the blood is released and washed out when you was them. |
| Can you fib and say your stomach has been bothering you and since you need to be cleared for 24 hrs before going into water (per diarrhea guidelines) you're still going, but going to sit on the edge/on the wall (dangle your feet in) and take it easy? |
And have her friend keep an eye on and play with her kids in the water? |
How do you think this sounds better than just saying you have your period?? People are so strange with their strange lies. |
