If it’s not made up, releasing them was illegal, no one has a problem with that?

I don't have a problem because we are all being robbed.

So anything gained by illegal means is ok, or just against Trump? Are the gloves off for both sides?

He is the President. It's a national security issue (or does that only apply to Brown people, I'm confused).

What does race have to do with it? Illegal is illegal, either you’re ok with it or you’re not.

NP. No, it is wrong legally and morally for Trump's returns to be stolen. It should be investigated by the appropriate authorities (NOT Congress), at a regular pace. But as far as crimes go, this one is pretty minor.

It may be illegal, but I don't think it's immoral. I think whoever turned it over has a clear conscience and is willing to risk jail to do what he or she thought right.

26 U.S.C. § 7213(3) makes it unlawful for "any person" willfully to publish or print an unauthorized tax return.

That’s pretty clear. They’re committing a crime by publishing them.

This is exactly why they didn't publish them.

Stealing tax returns is illegal. Publishing information from stolen returns i not illegal. It should be noted here that in 2016 emails were stolen from the DNC and widely published, Trump even encouraged it and used the stolen information. So I don't care if his private information is stolen.

They didn't publish the actual returns. They reported on what is in the returns.

Which, again, show that Trump is a disaster financially AND paid $750 a year in taxes while president.

You are not a lawyer. Obviously. Here is the provision "(3)Other persons
It shall be unlawful for any person to whom any return or return information (as defined in section 6103(b)) is disclosed in a manner unauthorized by this title thereafter willfully to print or publish in any manner not provided by law any such return or return information. Any violation of this paragraph shall be a felony punishable by a fine in any amount not exceeding $5,000, or imprisonment of not more than 5 years, or both, together with the costs of prosecution."

It depends upon how and from whom the NYT got it and how that source obtained it. Highly unlikely that the NYT is criminally liable for anything. If the person who got it and provided it to the NYT was an authorized recipient, there is no crime. That person might be civilly liable to Trump and subject to professional sanction and perhaps some other criminal statute. The NYT MIGHT be subject to penalty if it could be proven that the NYT KNEW IN FACT the received the info from someone who had obtained it feloniously.

Go back to navel gazing.

Not a lawyer, but I'm sure NYT's legal team thoroughly vetted what they're doing to ensure they're not committing any crimes.

+1 If you want lawlessness, then this is what we get.

Trump is calling it "fake news". How is publishing fiction a crime? According to Trumplettes like you, the Times publishes nothing but fiction.

My guess is that what they have is not the actual tax returns. They call it "tax information".

Really you are trying to say the NYT stole Trump's tax returns?

Besides the fact no they properly vetted everything. Trump himself campaigned on those tax returns hard. How many times did he tweet and say on National TV "I will release my tax returns" and then followed it up with my tax returns "you won't believe" etc...

Trump is a liar, scammer, con man to the T. He always has been from his Foundation, University and Modeling Agency (where was the conservative outrage then, illegal teen models) All three sanctioned for scamming hard working Americans over 25 million dollars worth.

We have the issue of National Security as well. He owes so much he's so in debt! And his a criminal period.

Trump is a failure, you and your cronies supporting him is ridiculous at this point. We are in this mess because of him.

How's that five miles of wall?

How's the pandemic? Who tells the CDC to lie about chidren. Who doesn't read the instructions left for them? Instead he winged it!

Schools, job losses, homeless, this is going to just get worse.

Reality Star for President of the US Donnie the Connie. Don the Con. Donald Trump killer of 205,000 Americans and climbling his fault. Who doesn't use instructions in a pandemic????? At least try ????? Criminal!
