Time to Unite on Gun Control

Anonymous
APS educator here. The issue of SROs keeps popping up in AEM in relation to the latest school shooting. While school security is important, please don’t let this distract from the real crisis. We all need to unite right now- on gun control. We can no longer allow this in our country.

Cops are cowards in these situations. We saw it at Parkland and we saw it in Uvalde.

SROs or lack thereof aren’t the problem. Guns are the problem. Ban the guns.

You got me at “ban the guns”. Ban the guns, ban the guns, ban the guns.

100% agree, OP.

The SRO talk on AEM is a distraction from “those people”.

Serious question. I support banning guns. But how will you get the million s of guns already you there? Do you really think people will just hand them over?

Not everyone, but there are pilots (eg https://www.npr.org/2022/05/23/1100683314/sacramento-gas-for-guns-buyback) that suggests many people will, especially if they are given something valuable in exchange (in this case, gas gift cards).

Stop talking about law enforcement. We may never agree on that. Stop worrying about how, and start worrying about now. We must act. We need gun control immediately.

Ban AR-15 and LARP-alikes. Require background check, training and and owners liability insurance for owners of other guns.

2A doesn't allow me to have a tank, or a nuclear missile. If objective is to overthrow tyrannical government I'd need at least that. Needs a grown-up conversation and dedicated single-issue voting and political donations until it isn't easier to buy a gun than a car.

Lack of action after Sandy Hook is our national shame. This ten years later is our wake-up of our obligation to make it right.

I'm in. Now a single issue voter. Voting in every single election.

Honestly, you worry about that another day. First step is just restricting the sale of new assault rifles. That has to be the initial focus- just get back to where we were pre-2004 with sales/manufacturing. This singular focus- one that doesn’t actually take anyone’s current property away- is easier to rally behind and may be more widely accepted.

What are we going to do make it a double gun free zone lol

No. The new regulations have to include money to invest in buying back the illegal weapons. There are places where this has been done successfully.

Me, too. I’m not a political person, but I’m absolutely sick of this shit. This is the shame of our nation.
