Need to add weight bearing activity but hate the gym

Anonymous
I walk or run 4-5 days a week and take one yoga class a week. My doctor recommends weights but I don’t belong to a gym and my home is too small for lots of equipment. Any ideas for good weight bearing activities i can do at home that don’t involve lots of stuff?

No equipment needed for this (other than a doorway pull up bar, which I never notice because I'm 5'3 and don't bang into it)

Do more strength-focused yoga. Or any other sort of bodyweight exercise.

Also, I love my suspension trainer. Very easy to adapt any exercise to vary the intensity. Resistance bands are good too.

I do planks, push ups, pull ups, and squats. But my legs and butt are are stubbornly resistant to my efforts to tone.

What’s a suspension trainer? I’m intrigued.

Tone is a combination of low body fat and muscle development. Legs are often the hardest to lean out for women. When it comes to muscle development body weight squats won’t cut it. You will need to incorporate some actual weight training.

Trx is a good challenge and can be attached over a door and stored in a little bag when not using.
It comes with a little pamphlet that has exercises. Plus there are lots of ideas online.

Try walking in heels, z-coils, etc.

You only need your body and dumbbells. You do not need big fancy machines.

Weights don’t take up that much room if you want to go that route. I hate the gym also, so I have a little corner of my laundry room where I keep a yoga mat and a few sets of weights (heavy for legs, medium and light for arms). You can also get a set of resistance bands and booty bands that take up no room.

You don’t need a ton of weights. Get a pair of 5-lb, 10-lb, and 15-lb dumbbells to start. Sign up for the Peloton app and do their strength training classes 3 times a week. Go from there…

Join a gym. Some 5 lbs home weights are not effective and you will tire of them anyhow. Join a cheap gym like planet fitness and go do some full body strength training twice per week

Interesting, my legs are the most toned part of my body.
