Teachers give us the down dirty about SOL scores this year

What grade do you teach? What subject? How are the scores looking? Are you seeing the impact of the pandemic?

Forgot to say principals can chime in too...

High school math

Same scores as any other year. Kids who did the work in class passed easily. Kids who were caught using photomath repeatedly during the year struggled.

I am impressed. I would think there would be gaps hard to fill from having fewer hours of math the previous school year. I bet it was more work for you teachers filling in those gaps?!

Lorton Station had AAP center kids fail both reading and math. Gen ed classes had six kids out of entire classes pass reading and even less pass math. It’s a travesty. I’m out of there.

6th. Grade DD (AAP) says everyone passed both math and LA SOLs. One kid got a perfect LA score, and another came close to a perfect score on math.

Her teacher is new to this grade level and has been stressed out, apparently. She’s now happy and relaxed, and “more fun”.

5th grade DD reports a lot of her class is retaking the science SOL about half the regular math class and a couple of advanced math are retaking and a few are retaking LA. She's usually pretty reliable

How does your DD know all that?

Because they know who is retesting and kids talk.

Was this 3rd and 4th grade by chance?

Excellent scores in my classroom for both reading and math.

What grade? AAP or regular?

ES principal here… scores are far higher than I was expecting. Really proud of our kids and staff. Only slightly lower score was 5th grade science… but it makes sense because it combines 3rd and 4th grade “pandemic” content
