I just want this day to get over. Too much pressure for the kids who really want to go to TJ. Please do not turn this statement into political fight. But it’s true, some kids really want to go to TJ.

This is just data collection effort

Why ask for that information? Gender and race are meant to be irrelevant to the admissions process. They also don't give any extra weight to those who are taken a class beyond algebra. Nor do they ask about STEM extracurricular activities. What is the motive behind collecting this information?

Where can you find GPA?

How was STEM extracurricular activities a deciding factor in the admissions decision?

Also there are 2500 applicants, and this thread will likely have a few dozen responses at most. What relevant will such a small sample have for any larger purpose?

Just to get some clarity on who got admitted that's all since this is new admission policy. Why shouldn't STEM extra activities be accounted if they were written as part of SPS answers or for schools to support kids involved in other STEM activities. TJ is a STEM school.

Then why not ask people to post their children's essays? Perhaps the admissions process should include a list of extracurricular activities and awards, but it doesn't. Asking about information which is not part of the admissions process won't shed any light on the admissions decisions that were made.

There are much better ways to understand how the process works, or to argue for changes to the process, then to collect irrelevant information in such an unsystematic fashion.

Do you think kids who participate in STEM extracurriculars are more deserving? Some schools don’t even offer them.

That's a good discussion to have. If some schools don't offer them, why not? If FCPS cares about equity of opportunity, then all schools should offer the same or similar opportunities for participation in extracurricular activities.

Will participation in STEM extracurricular activities improve one's chances at admission under the current process? One would hope so, but we don't know. What we do know for sure is that they can only do so if they are discussed in the SPS essays. That's why a list of STEM extracurriculars is a meaningless data point.

Serious question, how do I know my kid’s gpa? Is it listed somewhere in SIS?

Definitely not. It could be used by schools to select the 1.5%. I think school has input into this process as well.
