TJ Admission Results - Class of 2026

DC is WL.
4.0, honors, private school. Everyone I know in private is WL. Private school admissions dropped significantly since they changed the admissions process .
Someone told me it was fair to give more spots to public school kids. Why? We pay high property taxes and none of our kids ( 5th, 7th and 8th) cost taxpayers a penny education wise since K. 23 years of combined savings for FCPS. Don't tell me about "fair!"

Did they announce the demographic breakdown?

No. Some applicants are rejected outright.

The ones who lied about lunch?

Do kids in private schools get free breakfast and lunch like those in public schools?

Anonymous wrote:White male. One of the “TJ feeder” MSs. But as a base school not AAP. Algebra I. B 1st semester, but will be a B+/A- for the year. All honors except English. All As except an A- and a B+ in 7th, and the Algebra grade in 8th. Lots of music ECs.

He applied on a lark and isn’t sure about attending. Will probably give it a shot because he’s excited about the upper level tech classes.

Is it true that if he takes 4 years of orchestra, he has to do summer school to make the schedule work? Is the orchestra program strong? Also, it looks like they teach AP music theory?

It is really hard (but not impossible) to do 4 yrs of band or orchestra without summer school. My DC did summer school (online PE) and still ended up taking a year off of band to fit everything that they wanted to do into 4 yrs. The orchestra is incredible, as is the band.

lunch is included in the tuition at our private. so definitely not free.... but there are also kids there on scholarship so I suppose it nets out similarly to public school in that children with financial needs are fed.

DD got in. 4.0 Robinson. Geometry honors this year. No STEM ECs.
I am happy for her since she is happy about it but also not sure yet if going is the best decision for her. She’s a really introverted and anxious kid. She does awesome at math and it seems to come pretty naturally for her but she really has not been that interested in her science classes. She wants to do band and she does a year round sport already.

Any parents of similar kids? What did you do / are you doing?

From what I've read, the lunch question is more useful for the private school students because Fairfax already has information on all public school students and their qualification for free or reduced meal.
If you are in public school then there is no right or wrong answer because the question could be interpreted different ways since all students have been getting free lunch for the past year and a half.
If you are in private school then the lunch question is very clear and you checked YES, will they verify that or take it at face value?

I am saying this because I want to dispel the the meal conspiracy theory as far as public school students are concerned.

Outright rejection here. FCPS, not a feeder school. All honors straight As (one A- 1st semester 8th grade in honors English). Pass advanced on all Math and science SOLs. (If they looked at those)

He wanted to apply all on his own initiative-so I’m just glad he tried.

An no didn’t click free lunchs….

Isn't 50% for Fairfax classes honors? Then it doesn't mean much.
I think the distinguishing factor for all these students are the essays.
