Window shade debacle

Anonymous
We recently had inside mount shades installed throughout our house by a well know, $$ brand. Upon completion, we discovered that the installer had for some reason decided to mount all of the shades directly into the vinyl surrounding the windows, rather than the wood frames (despite having the depth to do so). We put in a complaint and they are sending someone back out, but I’m not sure what our best course of action is. From my research it seems that this guy was an idiot and you never, ever mount to vinyl because it’s not strong enough to support the weight and pressure of shades going up and down. If we have them remounted to the frames, we’ll be left with holes all over our windows. Any thought?

No, but can you say who it is because I am about to decide which shade provider to go with and don't want to go with that one.

Can you call a window company to figure out the total repair costs? Tell the blind company to reimburse you.

is there any chance I can actually get them to pay for that? Would cost well over $10k.

It can save us the issue you are going through

I would make sure the windows still function properly.

If so, you might be able to get awake with quick chalk job.

But really check all movement. Top, bottom, flip in, pop out & in, etc.

NP. I would give it my best shot. That is a pretty big mistake and forever damages the integrity of your windows. There is no fix except replacement. What does your insurance company say?

Yes.

I am not surprised. They are expensive and found them to be cold. The blinds are shipped to you, left on the front door for you to drag into the house. All others have options for the installer to bring it on the day of install making it easy. Which location? Or are they all the same?

OP here, I hadn’t thought to contact my insurance company because I don’t want my premium to go up. Wouldn’t I be better off going directly to window companies?

I would call the blinds store CEO. If they messed up the install, they are responsible for the windows. How can a expensive blinds install place not know how to install blinds? That is all they do.

I think window company would say you have voided your warranty by drilling into the vinyl.

Anybody recommend a company that can install blinds property without drilling into vinryl?

Idk because I don’t know if we have that kind of window. I can’t picture how they could attach them to the actual window.

If it’s just the trim of the window, can’t they just patch the hole and touch up the paint?
