How to research more Covid cautious private schools?

We need to leave fcps. It’s a mess. How would one begin researching what Covid protocols are in place to help us choose a more Covid cautious school community? I know nothing about private schools and options available. We are able to move anywhere in country. But prefer to stay in dmv. Welcome suggestions.

The DC schools seem like they have really ratcheted back. Not totally happy about it

My kids are at three different DC schools and they all test weekly. What schools have ratcheted back?

If you NEED to leave FCPS I will assume you mean for next school year (starting Fall 2022). That’s going to be tough right now, even ignoring COVID protocols, since you are far past application cycles. Your only choices will be anywhere with space, and while not definitive, I am guessing they won’t be the most robust school.

Are you looking for fall 2023? Options may be quite limited as admissions deadlines have long passed. I agree that Catholic schools have been some of the least COVID cautious overall. A lot of private schools have really scaled back their COVID measures this spring. I know of only one or two that still require masks. To me that was the last remaining guardrail. Our school was quite cautious but even gave up on masks recently (and we’ve had an uptick in cases).

Most private schools in Boston just went mask optional. 1/3 to half of kids still masking in KN95/KF94. Weekly PCR testing for all students and staff. On site antigen testing anytime anyone has symptoms. If a student in class tests positive, the whole class masks for the next week and antigen tests daily.

It might be a community you need to look for in addition to the rules of the school.

What kind of protocols do you have in mind? If you stayed in FCPS during peak COVID when there were no vaxxes, why leave now? I’m asking to understand what has either changed or is just now falling apart that wasn’t before.

Our private was super cautious (arguably too cautious/slow to open) last year and required masks inside and outside for longer than the DC DOH required. But even they have dropped all mask requirements. There's still weekly testing, but I suspect that will be gone by fall. Pick a school that offers the education (and commute) that works for your child.

This. It's beyond bizarre that you're picking based on Covid rules.

Pick the school that best fits your kid and academic needs (you know the reason they're going to school). Or go virtual-sounds like that's probably a better option for you.

Fascinating. My family member just said same thing as kids are in Boston and they do that.
