Tampon shortage?

I went to three different CVSs in NWDC today and the shelves were 99% bare of all tampons. The only thing left was some off brand super light option. What’s going on? Is it a CVS problem? This isn’t the first time either — same thing happened a month or two ago. I checked Amazon and they are almost three times the price. What gives?

Costco had tons of jumbo packs over the weekend.

Yes seems fully stocked. Maybe some of the bigger brands carried by larger chains have supply issues?

Yes, I noticed that I couldn't find any regular tampons at a couple of grocery stores. Just light or super size, or mixed packs, which I don't need.

I've noticed this too but only at CVS.

This has been an ongoing issue for the past year or so. Whenever I see 40-count regular absorbency o.b., I buy every box in stock because I know it could be months before I see any again. Giant, Harris Teeter, Target, CVS, and Amazon are consistently out.

I use the OB tampons and have noticed the same thing.

Also have been experiencing this at cvs!

Weird, I thought it was just me. I was searching for cardboard applicators because I hate the plastic for environmental reasons and they are nowhere. Ended up accidentally buying four cases instead of four boxes on amazon.

Same thing at both CVS and Amazon Fresh.

OP here -- yes!! Finding cardboard applicator is next to impossible. It kills me to think of putting all that plastic into landfills. I may just break down and get them from Amazon even at the ridiculous markup.

Does anyone have a sense of why this shortage has been ongoing for months? I get the global supply chain issues, but this seems strange.

You don’t need an applicator. Those are generally only used in the US and UK for cultural reasons. It’s worth giving some thought to.

Get the cup ladies! Before I got a mirena I used a cup. Do it! It's life changing.

Isn’t it messy to take out?

Switch to a cup! It's amazing. Although I still WFH and haven't figured out how to empty it in a public restroom yet.
