Why do people on this board hate on Georgetown?

As a foreigner living in the US and looking at colleges with my junior, I have wondered that recently. Is it because it's a local private, and kids want to go further away? On paper it looks like a great school, and my son wouldn't mind staying in the area.

Yeah, I don't get it. I have a grad degree from Georgetown and got a good education there. I'm not some huge booster or anything, but I'm glad I went.

The one that really confuses me is the people who always compare Georgetown and Notre Dame for the express purpose of putting down Georgetown. I don't get why they can't both be worthwhile schools? It's not like there can only be one Jesuit school. I'm not Catholic but this one always confounds me.

Georgetown grad here.

There are things to dislike about every school. For Georgetown it’s:

Weak endowment
Georgetown area is a pain/no metro/no parking
Super expensive
Lots of rich international students
Preppy vibe
For DC locals it isn’t far enough away as I’d want for my kids to attend
Catholic/Jesuit might turn some off (not me)

Personally, I've always viewed Gtown as one of those schools (like Tufts, WUStL, etc) that don't provide merit aid, but not worth full pay, so it's just never been on our radar. Probably why I DON'T have an issue with GW.

I don't think people hate certain schools - GT, GW, UVa, or UMD (ones most frequently argued here). It's just that when posters start posting unreasonable and incorrect things, people push back. Have you seen the NEU thread? That's a good example.
