Surrogate without a medical reason?

Anonymous
I'm 44. We have one child who I got pregnant with easily and then TTC #2 for 8 years with zero success. We did infertility treatments for the first 5 years and then TTC on our own for 3 years. I never got pregnant even once in all that time.

I received a diagnosis of "unexplained secondary infertility." To my knowledge, there is nothing wrong with my uterus. DH and I have now decided we want to try with donor eggs but due to my advanced maternal age we don't think we want me to try to become pregnant with DE. Can we work with a surrogate without a medical reason?

Yes, why wouldn’t you be able to be?

I do think that’s medical reason enough

I would think that secondary infertility is the diagnosis you need. I'm not really sure what you're asking.

OP here. What I'm asking is that technically I could try DE IVF and carry myself. However due to my AMA now, I don't want to be pregnant at this age. I'm just wondering if a doctor would deny me the opportunity to work with a surrogate since there is nothing wrong with my uterus.

They will not. Not sure why you think otherwise.

But clearly there is something wrong with your reproductive system. Unexplained doesn't mean "nothing wrong with", it means "science hasn't advanced to the point that we understand this".

You’re 44, you have a child. Move on.

Of course, you just have to pay.

I gave birth at 45 to a baby conceived by donor egg as well as having several other children conceived without medical intervention in my mid to late 30s.

The pregnancy at 44-45 was no problem.

Dealing with a teenager in my late 50's is the only part that has been really hard.

44 with unexplained infertility is a medical reason.

Why? You’re not an old lady

You need a valid medical reason. I had to use a surrogate and my doctor needed proof of my misshapen uterus to proceed. Once my surrogate got pregnant her OB also asked for all my uterine hysteroscopy records and the notes from the experimental surgery I had to reshape my uterus. You need to ask the doctor and/ or agency or lawyer you are using

This. Unexplained infertility is a medical diagnosis.

To have a teenager at the age is old.
