They’re 2-3 in HoCo, so I guess two teams is “a lot”. 🙄 |
| The 2025 booster is pathetic. Wait until next year when more and more of VLC 2025 (including your kid, you have a grammatical tell and I/we know who you are) get supplanted by kids from places near Charlottesville PVI/SSSA/DJO, not to mention Charlottesville, Charlotte, Philly and even Miami. |
so overhyping a marginal team is gonna draw more players from all over God's creation except Maryland? |
I heard they have a pole coming in from Ohio that reclassed 7 times and twins that are coming from Seattle to play (their wives said its ok). I think they might be hard to beat now. |
That would help and can they all rideshare together? |
| Do the 2022s expect a large number of commits? |
Knowing that team pretty well, I would say there will be likely 8-10 commits but far more offers. I think there is maybe only a few players who are legit D1 prospects and also want to play D1. I think there are a few players that could go mid/low D1 but don't have the desire to play D1. I would say you'll see mostly D3 commits from the 2022s. Time will tell. |

I'm glad to see VLC seems to be placing more and more kids at the D3 level. I think in its early days they looked to D1 or bust. As the sport is spreading it is getting harder and harder for DMV kids to claim a monopoly on the sport and it has been getting harder to get recruited at the D1 level. One silver lining is that more and more kids are taking a look at D3 schools. D3 schools offer very strong academics and a well balanced college experience. Yeah no $, but there never was serious $ for athletic scholarships even at the D1 level. D3 schools also have a way of carving out generous financial aid packages for kids who can add to the school community and sports is a part of that community. |
+1. VLC has touted the high academic/NESCAC experience in its recruiting nights. Reminding kids that it’s a viable option, and at the of the day, when the family is projecting out 20 years, the quality of the school will matter more than the quality of the lacrosse. |
It’s a shame for them. COVID has thrown a money wrench into the entire 2022 class. |
Speaking of Division 3, there are some excellent liberal arts schools listed on the VLC commit list! These days the admissions edge given to recruited athletes at D3 colleges is worth more than you can quantify. Seriously the only kids/parents who were not disappointed if not shocked into submission with this year's pandemic affected college admissions process were the recruited athletes. I went to Williams back in the day when a good all arounder (grades, scores, ECs) would give you a fighting chance to get in. I have not met a person who graduated Williams in the last 15 years who was not an athletic recruit and our college counselor says it's not even worth applying if you don't have a coach weighing in on your behalf even despite with my son's legacy status. Who would have thought that starting lax so many years ago would turn out to be such a worthy investment!! |
+1. Note that these Div I commit lists for VLC or any other club do not indicate if the individual played all 4 years at said school. Given the lack of scholarship money, and the fact that Div I rosters are large to begin with (and will be larger) post-COVID, many “commits” will opt out and stop playing. I think the same pattern exists in Div III but given the lax commitment is less at that level, there may be a fewer peace rage that drop out. Agree on the recruited athlete front. This year’s admissions at the top schools was a bloodbath - with increases in applications and waiver of test requirements. If you don’t have a hook, it’s very difficult. |

Nothing against D3 lacrosse. But are you really paying all that club money to go D3?
|
| The harsh reality for VLC is that most of the kids are from places like Loudoun with subpar public schools. Sure a kid from McLean/Arlington at a top ranked public might end up at a place like Amherst which is as rigorous as any Ivy, but your average public school kid at VLC won't have the academic piece to match the lacrosse piece. The strong academic D3 schools are much less forgiving for a low GPA/SAT than at the D1 level. |
