I think the original poster who is pro H is suggesting any child whose parents didn’t support H would be ostracized at Crown. I mean I’m not that poster so maybe that’s not what they were saying. Either way, 😆 teens are not going to ostracize each other because someone’s parent thought a certain way about an issue. I’m sure they will, however, ostracize each other on brand of clothing, boyfriend/girlfriend drama. So there’s enough ostracization and name calling going around by teens on teens, no need for adults to contribute to this. |
That community is changing buildings and will still be there. Every year, new families come and go. Every school is being impacted by boundary changes. |
I don’t mean the community disappears if H is chosen. I mean it’s just a new community. Like I would personally want to make a deliberate effort to include FRES and Rosemont more. I may be against H but I’m not going to make it personal. Kids deserve a strong community. |
Dufief mom here (just catching up after a friend said this chain was wild today): I am so happy to hear this because this has had me concerned recently. I also want to say that I think the ongoing threat of litigation is going to undermine this effort to build a close knit community. Is this something that is being considered for Fallsmead and Lakewood families who, like you, wherever you are from, want this sort of community for all our kids? |
Parkway parent here. One that lol was name dropped. Thanks to whoever did that btw. But I don’t have ill will against Dufief or anyone who supports H. I don’t agree with H and I will continue to advocate against it. But not cool with name calling kids/parents or ostracizing kids/parents. Also not cool implying that other kids are less then, and not cool calling out Dufief or anyone else. I think most of us parents on both sides are not crazy. We have more in common than not. Whatever the final decision is, I’m all for working to create a positive culture of kids. |
Litigation is litigation. That’s part of advocacy. Litigation will not involve name calling/ostracizing parents or kids, etc. |
Dufief mom (same one!) again: 10/10 agree on the last part and the name calling/ostracizing people either as individuals or groups. My concern is that it becomes harder for us to create a positive culture for kids if kids see y'all still trying to make this thing not happen even after a decision has been made (let's say H is voted yes upon). Would be open to chatting more about it for sure since I don't hold any bad feelings against the Parkway Parents (I definitely do have some feelings about some nameless politicians and a few random people more for things they have not done rather than those which they have, lol). Anyway, as TT would say...Onward! Jk, bad joke. |
Lol nice try. Admire the effort to stop litigation. The final decision isn’t the vote but what happens after litigation. Let the courts decide what the final decision is. And if it is H, ok let’s go full steam ahead. Plus litigation, or threat thereof, doesn’t stop community building or cluster wide events. I met plenty of very nice and great Dufief families at the Harlem Wizards game. Yall have a pretty cool principal and I didn’t know yall had a Dragon as a mascot, which is also pretty neat! |
I think the issue is there is harm being done now and the not crazy parents who are anti-h might not be contributing to it but they’re also not taking a stand against it (and they do see it, as we all do both publicly and in their private planning threads). The anti-h parents who are concerned about an increase in the FARMS rate are vocal enough about it that it paints everyone in the anti-h movement with the same brush. And it leaves FRES and Rosemont families feeling like the Parkway parents are raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to avoid having to send their kids to school with FRES and Crown kids. I fully believe that is not your intent but the harm is real and it hinders all of our ability to build that positive culture. |
Wholeheartedly agree! Let’s make sure the kids aren’t negatively impacted and can get to be kids. |
Super not an effort to stop litigation--do I think it's frivolous and a waste, sure, but not my waste. I really do worry about the message it sends to the kids of "we are still trying to get you guys to not go to school with them or over there" which feels very counter to trying to build community to me. I come in peace, I promise! |
The lawsuit is not at all about not going to school with XYZ group of kids. I personally am not in conversations with people who make disparaging about kids whether explicitly or implicitly. And if I heard people make those remarks, I would ask them to please shut up. Every group has its own “crazies”. Someone in the pro H group starts targeting folks by name. Someone else in pro H started calling kids losers. |
| Imagine what the $100K donation could do for the new school, instead of a lawsuit. New uniforms for sports, music and theater needs, STEM equipment... |
Nothing compared to the hundreds of millions that MCPS wasted on a school that didn’t need to be built. Imagine what that money could have done not just for Wootton, but Magruder, Damascus, and everyone else. This is why I don’t get this whole community vs community fight. This is a MCPS BOE mess. |
Regardless of the basis for the lawsuit, I guess the desired outcome is to "not go to school over there with those people" so I guess I am not really sure families and children will be able to work to build community while still hoping it doesn't happen. But I am always open to being wrong and I really hope I am because we do all want the best for our kids, I know that. And, for sure on the last part--people are unhinged, about...so many things. I don't know about doxxing people (here? Fb?) but I did see the loser comment and thought it was gross. Especially from someone who is not personally impacted by the outcome. I have always asked people to approach others with understanding even if we disagree (reading the book, "I Respectfully Disagree: How to have difficult conversations in a divided world" now and it's great). I think it has been so disheartening/classless to see cluster schools target Dufief or the contingents from Stone Mill and Travilah who also are excited about this new chapter and really hope it stops. |
