20+ years and still complaining?! Move or get over it. |
How? With the current morons on council, the only place it will swing is back into the 70s and 80s. We need a new leadership…and someone who is not a career local politician. Get someone with real world business experience who can govern and lay down the law. We need to incentivize growth in DC, not decay and equity. |
Seems like there is a potential for a new shuttle business! |
I am a DP, I really hope it does. 10 years ago you could go to a game or concert at Capital One Arena (it was the Verizon Center!) and then walk around to a bar or restaurant, go to a happy hour, then to your car or Metro. Even at night. It wasn’t a huge “nightlife” area but it was lively and fun. And no one was openly dealing drugs on the street. Your car wouldn’t be stolen and you wouldn’t be carjacked. There were panhandlers and homeless but they were not mentally disturbed and aggressive as they are now. But if you go there now you know that’s now how it is anymore. I agree that a central location in the city is the best for all the fans. But the entire DC government dropped the ball big time and it opened up an avenue for Youngkin and the VA state and local government to quietly step in and Youngkin to convince his friend to move the teams. So yeah. I really really hope this is a wake up call for the city too, but I’m not 100% certain it will be. Don’t know what it’ll take to return everything to the good old days of, like, 2008-2016. |
Don't forget the players, team employees, owners and luxury box owners. That plus the arena staff bring spots down to 2,000. Oh and there's supposed to be VaTech and retail there as well. By the time all is said and done there might be only 1500 parking spots for the people going to the games. This is going to be hilarious! |
NP here. No dog in this fight but you are terribly rude. PP was addressing the topic at hand, you do not have to read it, or even like it. Grow up. |
You can still do those things. I even did them last night. The DC Government didn't drop the ball. Read the Axios report. DC doesn't have 70 acres and 2 billion dollars to give to Leonsis to retain the teams. That is the proposal Virginia made. It has nothing to do with crime, which is just the cop out bogeyman (yes it is an issue but it isn't why the teams are moving) - this is a plain old money grab that two old friends conjured up at Virginia taxpayer expense. |
| I wonder if they would create a VRE stop by PY? |
“Dumb and spiteful” unfortunately describes the mayor at her disastrous press conference after the announcement. Her answers were both condescending and vapid. |
There’s one at Crystal City. |
It's like a 15 minute walk. Are people really that lazy that they can't walk 15 minutes? |
And empty otherwise. Seems a small price to pay to clear out the traffic. |
|
How will the pendulum swing back? There is zero plan to address crime.
I was one of those people who thought the crime complaints were overblown until I had a gun in my face in the middle of a workday and saw how random it is in this neighborhood. |
Agreed. It's amazing how unpolished she is after so much time in office. Trying to sound haughty and knowing while also seeming lost and desperate. Not a good look. |
No. There were already developments planned for this location. So not empty. |
