As someone noted upthread, a defendant is advised by his lawyer not to show any emotion during the trial, since any emotion could be misinterpreted by the jury. During sentencing, that is the time for the defendant to show remorse.

FWIW, I think the poster on this thread defending him is a friend rather than family member, but I could be wrong. Either way, they seem very young and I don't read anything into their posts against the defendant.

It would be funny if DCUM got a court order to reveal this person's ID so they could be named in the inevitable civil suit.

Fwiw, we don’t know for sure that the person posting here is a family member or even knows him. It could be just some troll trying to rile people up.

If it was a troll the moderator would have removed their posts.

Only if someone was reporting all of them.

My guess is he’ll get five years.

I have reported several posts and they are still up.

How is Shahid’s family paying what must be exorbitant legal fees? I wish that money was going to the victim’s families.

Are there courtroom sketches available to the public? Anyone on this thread present at the trial and sentencing? Can you comment on what is going on? How is the defendant? How are his parents?

Well they don't have to pay for college anymore so that probably opens up some funds.

Courtroom sketches are done by the media in high-profile cases where cameras aren't allowed. This case isn't nearly high profile enough for a sketch artist.

Good. He can wait in jail.

Again can we stop being so mean?

We told enough everyone make a mistake, and he’s going to spend time behind bars, but please stop being mean. I am just going show this link the the lawyer.

What is mean about it?

Greenspun knows exactly how it works but tried to make a big deal out of immunity, knowing that juries and observers will draw the wrong conclusion.

Everyone can also draw their own conclusion about him neglecting to look for pedestrians before he started turning.

It ain’t mean, it’s reality so own it.

Who is this nutcase that keeps posting and has no ability to use proper grammar?

I’m going to guess there are some really young, if not naive posters. I’ll give them a pass if they are young, but they truly don’t understand the terrible ramifications of Shahid’s choices.

We all make mistakes, but there are consequences for those mistakes.

I understand there’s a delay with sentencing. When will we hear about a sentence? I can’t imagine that one woman passing out in the court will push this whole thing till tomorrow.

So when is the sentencing

Jury deliberates on a sentence recommendation today. Both sides get to testify. Supposedly someone passed out during testimony from one of the victim's mothers. Assuming she just fainted, that would probably cause a 30 minute delay at most.

The judge will issue the actual sentence in a few weeks or months. He cannot go above the jury's recommendation but he can go below it.

We don't have an eye for an eye here, so they are mainly to deter more damage to society and give a warning to future offenders or to allow the wrongly accused to set the record straight. Hopefully the families can get some money to help them move forward more easily and at least feel from the community during the criminal trial that their children's lives were valued.

How would money help them move forward? It’s not like 14 year olds were breadwinners or raising families?

Wow.

How does this work.? Can someone explain it? is there a possibility of house arrest? I mean, he didn’t do this on purpose. It was reckless and stupid. He was only 18. Maybe I watch too many movies, but they will absolutely destroy him in a federal prison. A young 20 year old boy going in with hardened inmates?

Honestly, he sounds like he’d fit right in…
He cared more about his dad yelling at him about the damage to his car, than he did about hurting/killing others.

That’s already a “hardened” person.
