Swim team is still very well represented on the board. They may not be as vocal but a fair number are swim team families. I think it will be closer to normal than last year but I'm just guessing. |
| I would love to have my pool due a reservation system. |
Oh, that is absolutely crazy. They kind of have people locked in as well. Hard to join a pool this late in the game. Honestly the membership should complain quite vocally. Our pool in Burke is opening without restrictions. |
No, you don't. Because we did it last year and the majority of the people could not get slots or highly undesirable slots. Sometimes the system would crash and there were many weeks, that there were no slots for my family for the whole week. Since you make them in advance you never know what they weather will be like and I remember the days I didn't want to go but had to go and use the pool because it was our only 90 minute slot for the week. It was awful. |
DP but I thought it was great. Easy to get spots and had the space to ourselves. Hoping it continues this year, our board is still deciding. |
I can see what that would be frustrating, but as it is now you can drive to our pool 15 minutes away and get turned away if its full. Waste of time. |
Thats crazy! There were about 20-30 families at AFC yesterday right after school and it did not feel busy at all. We're allowing 80% for up to 2 hours at a time (not sure how that will be monitored or if people will be turned away). |
It's a 12-person board at DH. I believe 9 of them are swim parents, it was 10 before one board member resigned. These are people who are at the pool a lot both recreating and for swim and dive. Stop acting like they want to keep you from the pool. They took an approach to risk assessment that some agreed with and some didn't. The reminder of the code of conduct was valid - look at McCrazy's posts on the FB page goading one board member to quit because "we don't need you" and saying "screw you". The abusiveness and vitriol heaped on volunteers from among our membership making the best decisions they could was out of control. Many offered constructive feedback, others were downright horrible in their attacks. I heard back from the governor's office today and they confirmed the intent is to lift all regulations at midnight on 5/28 (Thursday --> Friday). The board knows that and is counting down the days. |
Our pool has a real time occupancy counter on their website to avoid that. |
McCrazy goes to DH? No wonder the FB page is getting vicious. Right there is the problem. |
We’ve been at our pool and I’ve been on the board for over 11 years and I’m sure it has never hit capacity in that time. We could definitely use more members, but that’s one benefit. |
DP We aren’t reserving this summer, but we did last year and it worked well largely because we have a small membership base. If the time slots filled up (they often didn’t), it would take days for them to do so. |
DH is bananas right now. The board is mad at "McCrazy" although it is not clear why. Her FB posts have been reasonable, at least before things blew up last weekend. She's just been asking what others are asking, which is why the board is trying to police social-distancing with the roped off sections when all other Arlington pools aren't doing that. I think some board members still must be upset at her for actions that happened during the school move debate. But rather than just dealing with her, they are passive aggressively punishing the entire membership base by limiting swimming this weekend to 12 families at a time, first come first served, which is pissing off a lot of people who now have to stand outside in the heat to wait for a spot to open up. And the entire membership got an email warning against bullying behavior towards the board and threatening to terminate memberships if anyone's comments got out of hand. Do other pools have this much drama? It is starting to seem like DH has a board vs member debate every year now. Maybe we should just build a boxing ring in the front yard and settle things Fight Club style. |
Not at ours. Honestly it feels kind of like a “small town” where almost everyone knows each other. Not much drama at all. |
I’m in MoCo not VA, but this seems so crazy! There has been very little Covid drama at our pool. Last year there were reservation systems, distancing restrictions, etc. but everyone just kind of rolled with it. We have very few restrictions this year, no reservation system, everything is open again, and I expect a very chill fun summer for my kids. |
