I see a lot of talk in this thread about not liking this plan because we should wait for teachers to get vaccinated.

I agree with that, but doesn't anyone want to wait for kids to also get vaccinated? Especially with the studies about this new form of the virus (that started in England and is wreaking havoc in Los Angeles right now) that affect kids at about the same rate as adults? The previous versions of the virus didn't seem to get caught by kids that much, but this new one is different.

And I saw another study today about how the virus was enlarging vessels in the braina of people who had had it -- even if they didn't have life threatening symptoms and recovered, the vessels remained enlarged.

I mean, not to be a chicken little or anything. But I'm not sure I'd want to send my kids back until they had vaccinations themselves.

I hear you but that won’t likely be until at least the end of this year. None have been approved for kids. Is anyone willing to let their kid be a test case? It’s tricky. I think we need to focus on air filtration, tents for outdoor Lunch/classrooms, etc. We are in this for a long haul. We need actionable plans to get more kids back safely.

Schools in NYC and NJ are open. Stop the stupidity and read the science. Have any teachers or kids died in 50 percent of the country that has opened?? No! Has anyone died in our local private schools? No. Schools are not superspreaders ! Stop the nonsense and read the science. At the very least, listen to Fauci. Duran is on the right track if he opens schools with proper mitigation.

NYC is starting teacher vaccinations this month.

And NYC schools will close (again) if positivity rate goes above 9%. We are 11%+.

Kids may not be dying but I don't exactly want to subject my tween to significant and not understood or studied long term effects if another few months of this could inoculate him from harm.

Reading the science is how I found out about the enlarged brain vessel study. https://technocodex.com/how-covid-19-attacks-the-brain-and-may-in-severe-cases-cause-lasting-damage-shots/

Than keep your kid virtual. Literally no one is saying you should send your kid back now if you’re not comfortable.

If they want teachers in person, then SB should start meeting in person. Period.

They are starting in Feb. this was included in the email that went to teachers today. First on Feb 4th.

What email was this? Not all teachers got it, that's for sure. Who was it sent to?

And they use that lack of data to actually try to claim we are nailing this and everything is good. Ludicrous

I do. Our kids are not returning to school until they are vaccinated. Because the vaccines have an efficacy of 80-90% at best there will still be a risk. It will be mitigated but there will still be a risk. I don't let my kids ride their bikes without helmets, either.

Exactly.. Duran has been slow and smart about phasing the reopening. Follow Fauci!!

The issue of student vaccines is only relevant to whether you choose hybrid or DL. But the issue of teacher vaccines is more urgent since they are not being allowed to choose. They are being ordered back just as the pandemic is peaking with a dangerous variant beginning to reveal itself in the US. That is just not supportive and protective of staff. It’s ludicrous. It’s profoundly troubling. Don’t know how the Board and Duran can’t see that. Wait til you see literally any evidence of a decline in cases before you do this.

I know. That's why it is insane that people keep claiming that the data supports that opening schools is okay. What do you mean "data"? There is no data because there are no tests. Every time someone says the "data" supports it you know their blowing smoke about their butkus because the claims needs to be accompanied by the # of tests for the given population. Once you see that the # of tests is immaterial then the whole "data" point disappears.

x1000 It is extremely troubling and unfair. If they want to return to inperson then that is fine but as a parent I completely oppose forcing teachers to return against their will when it is clearly so dangerous to them.
