What is the source for this? I see USA Today article saying that the average GPA is 3.3. That is a B+ in FCPS. Still very high, but also not an A- average. In our very rigorous FCPS high school there is no way that the average GPA is 3.7 or that all but special ed kids (I have one) are in honors classes. Plenty of solid students are in on-grade level, albeit not advanced students. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2017/07/17/easy-a-nearly-half-hs-seniors-graduate-average/485787001/ https://www.insidehighered.com/admissions/article/2017/07/17/study-finds-notable-increase-grades-high-schools-nationally |
Rigor, high school profile (blue ribbon vs. avg crummy public high school), and official AP scores? |
Aren't those one in the same? |
| Who cares if OP's kids is are actually average compared to the nation? You understand her question; if a friend said this to you at lunch would just be so pedantic? Either say something helpful or move on. |

hear, hear!! |
How can a 3.3 be a B+? |
Is this a joke? A B is worth 3.0 on a four point scale. A 3.3 is higher than a 3.0 so it’s a B “plus .3”? Is it exactly the same GPA as if you got a B+ In every class, no. But it is a better than B average. |
A 3.3 at our school is an 86, which is a B, not a B+. |
| When I was in school, a B+ was a 3.3 and an A- was a 3.7. I think it's a pretty common grading scale. |
My sister has taught at a couple of privates and she says the amount of grade inflation is ridiculous. |
I teach at an UMC public HS and this is ridiculous. The average GPA is definitely not an A- |

If you live in Michigan, maybe, but not OOS. ACT midrange for last year's freshman class was 31-34. Ain't exactly average, let alone "painfully average." |
