State is in shambles after Trump. They need a leader that has both foreign policy experience and experience running a large, complex enterprise. Buttigieg has the potential, but not the experience. It's way too risky to trust the State Department right now to someone with Buttigieg's level of experience. I don't know who it will be, but it won't be him. It probably won't be anyone who sucks up a lot of media attention either. That's simply not what State needs right now. |
There is no universe in which Kasich is a moderate. I know that it's gotten hard to tell in the Trump era, but sane =/= moderate. It's an orthogonal axis. |
Thank you! I don’t know why people think it’s ok to have people with no experience running huge federal agencies. Pete being the UN Ambassador is fine. SecState? No way. |
Stack that court up with women. It was all male for nearly 200 years; I think it’s fine to let the balance be more female than not for a little while. |
Even two more women would only be 5/4, which is hardly "stacked." |
I think Theresa Greenfield would make a good Ag secretary. If you listen to her debate with Joni Ernst, she made Ernst look like the moron that she is. And Greenfield clearly knew her stuff. |
I think Susan Rice is going to be Sec State. And if McConnell won't review her, then Biden can make her acting Sec State and just leave her there. If McConnell complains then Biden can point out that Trump set the precedent with Chad Wolf, Ken Cuccinelli and 15 other appointment positions that the Senate never approved and McConnell didn't complain about it then, so clearly McConnell approved of the procedure and established the precedent.
There is no one that will argue with her credentials. She would be one of the most experienced Secretaries of State to ever step into the position. She could hit the ground running and would be able to immediately start righting the horrible degeneration of the US foreign policy reputation that Trump and his rotating clown car of Sec States caused over the last 3.5 years. |
She’s awful though. Poor judgement and poor temperament. Maybe Samantha Powers would be better |
I don't think that's fair. I think the problem was Hillary Clinton, not Susan Rice. Rice took the fall for Hillary Clinton and was scapegoated in place of Clinton. It wasn't her fault and she was not given the preparation to deal with the aftermath of Clinton's problems. |
Mitt Romney will be a good Sec of State.
Adam Schiff for DNI or AG Stacy Abrams for DNC Chris Cuomo for Press Sec - because he is annoying as hell |
WE CAN’T SPARE HIS SENATE SEAT. THE GOVERNOR OF OHIO IS A REPUBLICAN. - sorry for yelling, this has been thoroughly discussed in dozens of threads |
Earls would be a great replacement for Thomas. A staunch conservative idealogue replaced by a civil rights activist. Poetic Justice. |
Thinking about the Senate and House members/candidates who just lost. Bullock as Secretary of the Interior was a great suggestion upthread. As was Doug Jones somewhere at Justice. Max Rose could get something at the Pentagon or the VA. Greenfield was a good candidate and knew her stuff but she’s in real estate, so Agriculture not great. Barbara Bollier is a medical doctor - lots of opportunities for that kind of experience. Donna Shalala is a former HHS Secretary. Debbie Murcasel-Powell had a long career in higher ed. |
Abby Finkenauer would be a good pick for SBA administrator |
This wins |
