No one wants to oppress white people or make them bow down. People just want equality across the races.

i don't think anybody could claim that this photo is objectionable because it is an example of nonwhites making whites "bow down." the ridicule is aimed at the virtue signaling white people for engaging in such embarrassing silliness.

Bingo.

Why is it not virtue signaling when my priest does it on Holy Thursday?

+1. Some of this right wingers don't know the Bible at all.

Really? Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, not to ask forgiveness, but as a reminder that we are called to serve others. This is why a priest might wash the feet of his parishioners - to illustrate that we are to do our work, to serve others, even if we think it might be beneath us. The white people in this video were asking the black people for *forgiveness*. Big difference.

History is violent, brutal, and ugly. If you feel guilty for the past for things that happened when you weren't even born you'll feel bad for the rest of your life.

Yes, they do, as a matter of fact.

Every German schoolchild has to go visit a concentration camp at some point.

It's how they try to work through their past, by dealing with it. And learning never to forget. And to prevent something like that ever happening again.

NP. Is it a revered practice, generally speaking, amongst Germans? I’m glad to hear that you are not afraid to face pain as a reminder of what to never allow the future to become. Thanks for posting.

Wrong. They are not washing feet for forgiveness - they are doing it as an act of service and humility as equals believing in the same holy God. I’ve washed feet and had mine washed. Have you? Ever? Have you ever taken a knee in honor? Or perhaps for a proposal? Or prayer? Altar call, or communion? This is why some religious based rituals are not made public, but all are welcome privately with free will. There are many different religions and practices in this world, and especially in our very diverse metropolitan communities. what looks normal to one eye can be offensive to another if taken out of context of without an understanding of the practice. So it is important to listen. There isn’t one singular, perfect, correct and simplified answer.

People who truly study and meditate on the word of God may have very different conclusions from this. Certainly not suggestions of oppression as what is being suggested. Although, I can see where others would try to manipulate the intention for their narrative.

so the black people are the sinners?

DP, but all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Have you ever heard of servant leadership? It’s not debasing or humiliating. It is actually quite empowering. And it is also very, very difficult for many people.

There are white people washIng black’s feet. Did any blacks were asked and washed white people’s feet during the event? Was the person provided service is leader? I am confused. If washing feet is servant leadership or empowering, why only white people wash black people’s feet in public?

Wrong. That's exactly what they're doing.

Hey, I didn’t go into the reasons why it was cringeworthy. The optics are embarrassing for believers, black people and white people. There is just too much room for misunderstanding of malicious manipulation. I get the gist of what is happening, but never would have recommended this. It just feels really.. trolly. Safety first.

actually yes- they do. Denying the evils of nazism are actually a crime. they have tons of hate speech laws, still prosecute old nazis and talk about it all the time and how this is a debt that they owe humanity and europe. they also talk about how they killed handicapped children, biracial germans, jehovas witnesses, roma , gay people, communists,, etc etc.. They guard against doing anything that horrible again and actually totally changed the way they educated there childrena nd ran their society b/c of guilt over their nazi past. . .This is one of the reasons Angela Merkel gave for her openhearted response to the migrant crisis and by the way- she was suuuuuper conservative and suffered a childhood in the GDR. Same with the Japanese- they give massive amounts of charity and talk about the crimes they committed- i know many chinese and koreans think they don't do enough but Germans definitely routinely write popular fiction and and film movies about their guilt over their nazi past. Its one of the hallmarks of a functioning civilization- they indict themselves for their mistakes and try to build a better society. Its an actual hallmark of (western) liberal democratic civilization - you talk about how far you've come honestly and openly, you take stock of where you are and then you put together a plan for who you want to be in the future. Its quite healthy- and its an attitude that has served individuals and nations well.
