Coach here: I'd say many, if not most parents don't have a clue about soccer. That is changing a little as the sport becomes more popular in the US with adults, but still lags well behind knowledge of the other "top" sports. This allows some clubs and coaches to get away with a lot of teams when it comes to the education of the sport involving youth players. My advice to every parent is if you care more than about having some fun and exercise, is to research your potential club and coach. Go to some practices and games BEFORE tryouts if possible. To the poster I quoted - there are plenty of coaches that value both and I don't think it's 95% long ball, but it can certainly be better. I hope you find the right home for your daughter. |
I'm the poster that you quoted. Thank you for the reply. Yes, I know that there coaches that value technical skills. I know several and my daughter works with one. So what I'm saying is that...they are out there. I agree with you and I hope parents don't settle for long ball. If you do, then to me, they are just as guilty as the coaches in only caring about winning. Otherwise, they'd move their kid. So when you see long ball, it's not only the coach. It's the parents too! I have a U15 son and he would never play for a long ball team even if I wanted him to. |
| Last fall I watched several times the most highly regarded girl from this area in the class of '20, MM, as far as being a member of the U20 women's national team. She did not stand out at all as far as technique is concerned. In fact, if I didn't know who she was I would have barely paid any attention to her. She's fast and a really excellent athlete. |

Coach again:
Unfortunately the path to the USWNT (at any level) is, in my opinion, a broken one. I think this one one (of many) ares US Soccer could greatly improve upon without too much effort. |
Who’s that? |

In that case suggest the USNMT to replace all its players with the track team. I bet the have great athletes. |
For sure a broken one |
Most of the USWNT are all star track athletes. |
Clearly someone has an axe to grind here. I'm not sure if their kid is a highly technical player overlooked for athletes or a athletic kid with little technical ability. |
Factually I don't think many participated in Track and technically yes they are better |
Sure go look at any of their bios. They all ran track in high school and were really good. Any of one them could have gotten scholarships for track. Rapinoe, Press, etc they are all great mid distance runners.

There is not a slow player on the USWNT. They chose soccer over track at an early age. Do not kid yourself, if a girls shows up at a u15 tryout with world class speed she will make the team. It’s high school soccer. |
Of course there isn’t. The best 30 players for any nation are all going to be elite across the board. Again, I don’t know what point you are trying to make other than stating the obvious, USWNT are all fast. News at 11:00. |
How is this fact |
Who is MM |
