Not at all the same as a quick in-and-out procedure. |
My daughters are so flipping pretty. They get compliments all the time. I generally post pictures on social media. I fear the evil eye. |
I fell differently from most here.
I was (Maybe still am) what you might consider a very good looking, hot girl. I was the prettiest girl in school (or so my classmate would say), I won beauty contests and did print modeling in college. I am not tall so I could never do runways and I am a little too curvy. I was always pretty since I was a baby. Men always liked me, but when I was younger it was hard to have girlfriends. In someways my life was easy and beautiful. In others... not so much... I was always very insecure of my look... I always wanted to be taller or have longer legs or thinner. I had eating disorders, etc. even in my career I still am insecure and always try to play down my looks (though now at 35 and after 3 kids I don’t think it’s very hard). I always thought people only appreciated my looks and that people (men especially) would never take me seriously. I have two daughters and while I think they will be taller than me and longer legs (thanks to DH), I don’t think they are as pretty as I was... I am happy about it... I would not want to be ugly or fat, but being very pretty does not always translates into happiness and success... on the contrary |
Just to add that class mates (men) during my PhD would tell me: “aren’t you happy? You can be a bikini model and still hangout with men that do their PhD”... I would HATE these kind of comments... made me feel so small and stupid... inferior in many ways |
My mid-teen kids are both solid 7s or 8s, which is perfect. They’ll both be fine in that sense. Can’t rely on their looks for everything, but looks won’t get in their way. |
...of all silly things this is the silliest. As long as they are healthy in body and mind. Look around you, how many kids with special needs you know? do you think their parents ever had those stupid thoughts about "looks"? Still, the topic attracted a lot of posts.

The "White is Right" comment reminded me of a scene from the television show Vida, which began its finale season today. Marcos and Lyn are talking about all the colorism within the Latinx community they grew up in. It really struck a chord for me as a Latino who heard these ridiculous messages from a young age. Not too long ago I was looking at my high school yearbook and I was floored by how objectively not good looking some of the most popular girls were. All they had going for them was light skin. It was as if that magically turned an average girl into a babe. And there were so many very pretty dark skinned girls that barely got noticed. Like Lyn and Marcos say, it's really sick when people of color engage in self-hate shit like that. I had an uncle who would tell my parents that his girls were the best looking of the cousins because they had green eyes and me and my sisters had brown eyes. I saw a picture from a big family event taken recently and it's striking how unattractive his girls are compared to me and my sisters! LOL!
So, no. The fact that your kids have blonde hair and blue eyes does not mean they'll be attractive in any objective sense. However, racism might help them to be considered attractive by people who fail to examine their own racist attitudes. But I'm not sure you'd want to count on racism continuing in order for your kids to have easier lives. |
Odd. With all the racism you’ve identified (correctly) in the Latino community (don’t use Latinx—very offensive to people who actually live in Latin America), then it seems there’s a near zero chance of racism dying out in this country in the near future. |
I think it is much more disturbing that you are reading too much into regular compliments. |
Where I live blond and blue eyed is getting rare so I am happy my boy is fair. It will help him stand out and hopefully appeal to the most powerful people later in life ![]() |
It's really hard to tell if they will be beautiful adults. |
Wow! DCUM does not disappoint. It appears that not only are all DCUM children geniuses, they are also ALL physically beautiful!
|
+1 I wonder where they are since most of the children that I see are very normal looking. |
The “fit” part is a major requirement though. A fat blonde is no better than a fat brunette. |
They will also likely live long healthy lives! |
