GAL - Girls Academy League

Gda has only been around a few seasons. Things can quickly return to how it was when many players were in the same league instead of spread out all over. Ecnl is far far from perfect but better over all to try to consolidate talent to one league. Same would have happened if ecnl had failed. One had to go.

One of the questions is what do ECNL folks really expect the former DA clubs to do? They have talented players and coaches. Do they really just think the clubs will turn to dust and float away like a Thanos snap?

They will band together and form a league. Mocking it will not make it go away. The battle now will be for players, just as before. And if DA players move to ECNL not every current ECNL player will stay on the team. Those players may very well end up looking for spots in the team they previously mocked.

This will be disruptive for all.

If you are on 05 - same as 04. 06 and younger is a different story. Not recruiting years and the survivability of the GAL starts to matter. The GAL's survival is less important the older the ex-DA players are. For 03 and 04 it only needs to get them through one year.

+1 Same for us. DD loves the girls, just not willing to take the risk after all the hard work. Fairly confident we are not alone in making the change but each family needs to make their own decisions.

Yep. My DD wants to move as well, has played with the coach that will be coaching her new team and wants to play for him again. It will be hard leaving but we are listening to what she wants to do.

"Her new team." Does that mean you've already talked to coaches there and received a commitment?

Be careful with this. If you know the coaches REALLY well, okay, but you may be committing and end up on a composite team. And before you accuse me of being ‘anti-ECNL’, there are a lot more shady individuals out there in youth soccer than those you can actually trust. Sad but true.

BRYC does the "composite" trick! McLean will roster you on the ECNL team along with 29 other players. So if you want to travel and sit the bench go to McLean. If you want to just practice and not have to attend games go to BRYC. If you want to actually play in games go to VDA or Loudoun.

BRYC hasn’t had a composite team in 2 years. VDA has 2 composite teams per age group. VDA calls their composite teams PWSI and VSA. Just ask the parents.

BRYC definately does have composite teams. Just ask the 2006 girls who switched over from other clubs.

VDA is starting composite teams. Top recruiter told DA parents that.

The clubs will figure a league out. Again, the clubs didn’t fail, a league was pulled out from underneath them. If the SAME clubs stay together what is the difference? Your sorry 04 or 03 ECNL team is not getting an infusion of talent. 04’s and 03’s are not concerned with the half life of a new league as long as it can get them showcasing opportunities within the next year and a half. How is this so hard for you to understand?

Not PP, but my problem with the GAL is that the showcasing opportunities are unlikely to be what they were, and probably a far cry from ECNL's showcases. I'm not just concerned with DD's age group either, since the bottom could drop out of TSJFCV if most of the younger DA girls bail. If I were not yet at recruiting age, that is what I would do.

This. If younger then move to a proven platform if already in HS its really tough and really crappy.

Why so hostile? This is a garbage situation for a lot of player courtesy of ussf. But they put millions and years into this venture and could not seem to get it right so just do not underestimate the issues that happen with launching a new league. I would argue these clubs should possibly stay together as a group but join an existing league with some experience. Not sure. Just watch out for your players and stay far away from anything to do with ussf
