Everyone is taking a pay cut. Why not the Feds??

Can you give me a concrete example of what you think a federal worker does? Do you know any of us personally?

I’m wondering who this “everyone” is that are taking pay cuts.
Many people have been laid off and aren’t working. They get unemployment benefits. Although through unemployment benefits is less money than a job, It’s not a pay cut.
A handful of companies are reducing salaries. But that is not all.
And many companies are paying there people as normal. Look at all the tech companies. Not one of them is reducing pay.

Lol wow what bubble did you crawl out of? Going on unemployment doesn’t qualify as taking paycut? Just...no words.

Bitch about having to take leave on days they're not working, if half the threads on here are any indication.

I’m curious who is getting pay cuts? Airline CEOs? Jared Kushner? Seriously, what non feds are getting pay cuts? I know about lay offs. I am not getting a pay cut right now although I am sure I won’t get a raise either. I work in tech.

What kind of bubble do you live in? No job means you do not work. No teleconferences. No deliverables. No deadlines. Unemployment benefits are not a paycheck.

"Work" and "Federal government job" don't go together in the true sense.

Oh really? You've never been to a NASA center, have you? We do real work, lots of it. Billions of dollars worth of it.

I have a friend who is a microbiologist who works for the FDA. Everytime there is an outbreak of salmonella or e coli or any other food born contamination, they work day and night to determine the source, restrict the contamination, identify food recalls, alert the public, etc.

I have another friend who works in federal law enforcement. They put their lives on the line for US citizens.

I have another friend who works for the IRS and is working day and night, extra hours to make sure that those stimulus checks get out to people in a timely manner even when POTUS internally requested that his name be put on the checks, delaying the entire timeline for processing checks to adapt the process to include that. Do you know how much extra time that added?

You have no idea how much work is done by the federal government. You just want to make baseless accusations. You're like a bigot who only uses stereotypes to enforce your bigotry. Have you ever worked in a federal agency and seen what goes on where the public doesn't see it? Probably not.

+1. PP, I'll agree with you that there's some dead weight in the government. However, there was dead weight in every company I ever worked at in the private sector; no more and no less than in the government in my experience. By and large the people I've worked with in the government are insanely dedicated and tirelessly passionate about their agency mission. While there's some nice job security, nobody becomes a civil servant for the paycheck. And don't forget that it's Congress (usually), not bureaucrats who are responsible for the red tape and byzantine regulations that us civil servants have to carry out and work under. If you want stuff to move quicker and easier, write your Congressman.

Can I get an "Amen"...AMEN

Then we can really say "We are all in it together"..

Bonus: money saved ($$$$) would help pay for the help needed by all the small businesses ...

Who do you know who is still doing their job in the private sector that is taking a 25% pay cut. Or any cut?

People are losing jobs. But if you are still doing your job, you should still get your salary.

Some federal workers are working night and day right now to help deal with this pandemic. You propose *cutting* their salaries?

Have you seen the average salary of a TSA worker, SSA Contact Rep and a Smithsonian Security Guard? These people deal with the public face to face and make crap pay as it is. Not every fed is living good on a GS-13 salary working from home in comfort. There are plenty of GS 5-7s in the DC area that are struggling because of the ridiculously high cost of living in this area.

I’m a former fed. Twenty percent (being generous) of our office did 100% of the work. The rest didn’t so anything more than collect a paycheck.

Unemployment is not a pay cut. It’s being laid off. It’s worse than a pay cut, but in this instance you’re being paid close to 4K/month for not doing work. What OP wants is for Feds to (presumably) continue with all their current demands, but take home less money.

Yeah, this board goes down rabbit holes about fed lawyers, but most of the feds I know are in these low to middle grade positions, which start as low as $35k. Do you really want to cut the pay of the people taking out the trash on the National Mall?

I would like to see they lay off these feds who don't actually work and raise payment to those ethical ones. My cousin works for DHS, he barely does anything and spends all his time picking up women, mind you he is still doing it during this pandemic and he is married (to an undocumented immigrant), lmao. Our extended family believe only some hardship in life can serve him as a wake up call.

Yes, if the federal government lowers pay, my DH will finally relent and apply to one of those jobs recruiting firms send him every week. He could at least double his fed salary.

Doubt it.
