Everyone is taking a pay cut. Why not the Feds??

Because OP is a small-minded dolt.

I'm not involved in health, but the industry I regulate is taking a beating and there is a lot to do. I'd imagine it's similar at many like USDA, Treasury, IRS, State (lots of Americans being repatriated and trapped overseas, plus their own FSOs), Small Business Administration, etc. The federal government is putting up a massive front right now and feds are working to make it happen.

I have a friend at IRS that has worked 18 hour days for weeks getting stimulus checks out.

Good points. I only am personally familiar with FDA but, of course, other federal workers are working harder than ever now too. No one should have their pay cut.

I have a feeling OP thought she’d rile up some fed employee hate, but instead she’s the one that got ripped on.

That really backfired.

My husband works for a tech company. Not only did he not receive a cut, the company gave everyone a small bonus. Not sure where OP got the impression that "everyone" is taking a pay cut.

Not that some aren't suffering. We're helping to support family, non-profits, our teachers, and local businesses. We see the pain and are helping as we can.

But it would be seriously foolish to do anything to lower consumption right now. Cutting the pay of public employees - which would absolutely impact US consumption - would push us further into recession/depression.

OP, you could not be stupider.

Can we call her fed bashing Becky???

Become one and shut up.
Feds are underpaid to start with.

+1. Fed salaries are a drop in the bucket compared to these items.

Yes, if the federal government lowers pay, my DH will finally relent and apply to one of those jobs recruiting firms send him every week. He could at least double his fed salary.

Doubt it.

+1 Another woman posting about her husband’s job. Worthless. She doesn’t know what is really happening at his job.

Nah. That prize is still reserved for you.

Feds workers, other than highly accomplished scientists, engineers, or other researchers who are dedicated and give up much higher career advancements in industry for public service are PARASITES imho. No...I’m not envious, or have any hatred towards most Feds. Just realistic. I own my small commercial construction business and doing just fine. Most of the Feds I know are lazy ass$$, whine too much, hanging out just to pick up the paycheck, entitled attitude, and not in touch with reality. Most even admit and brag about it as much!! They should be laid off or at a minimum furloughed!!!

Mmmhmm. Then why such strong feelings about them getting fired.

Sounds like you're just anti-feds. We're not equivalent to Congress, you know. Sometimes I think people project their hatred of Congress onto the federal workforce as a whole.

I recognize that this is from the first page. I completely agree with this. What is the end game in cutting the pay of people who are already receiving less pay than if they worked in the private sector? By the way, I do not work for the government. I work for a private industry and I got furloughed due to COVID-19. But I still don’t want other to be in my shoes and I cannot believe that people are thinking like this. Just because I lost my job does not mean others have to feel my pain.

You really want to play with rocks in the glass house playboy? Because there are plenty of high 6 figure earning private sector workers in this area that brag about doing less than a few hours a week of work. I can guarantee you some random claims processor at SSA does way more and contributes more to this country than the horde corporate suits with bullshit titles in this area.

Does anyone know if the president has authority to mandate a salary cut for federal employees? Or does it take an act of Congress? (And has it ever happened)?
