Colleges growing in popularity

Florida, South Carolina, Clemson, and Alabama have been popular with kids here for years. The next wave of popularity in Southern schools will be Tennessee, Auburn, Florida State, and UCF.

Not Auburn.

Alabama isn't popular from here either. Why anyone would send their kid out of state to Alabama besides football??

Popular is Wisconsin, Indiana, College of Charleston, University of South Carolina, Tennessee. These all became popular in the last ten years. Elon as well.

You don’t know much about this process, do you? Not aware of Alabama’s generous aid to quality students?

Wisconsin has been popular for the DC area for at least 30 years.

Elon was a joke a decade ago. Now, I agree, it is becoming a first-choice school. I’ve been surprised at the quality of the kids (nice, bright, hard working kids) going there from our school/neighborhood.

Yes, my colleagues with kids applying to college were talking about it being a popular choice.

It has always been popular among DC residents, particularly since it participates in the program that gives a discount to DC residents.

High Point reminds me of where Elon was a decade ago. I.E., unknown by the DMV, or if known, seen as a real safety. I predict that will (or is) changing.

I have a good one: McGill.

Montreal's location (not that far from the East Coast, fun city), combined with affordability (esp with the weak Canadian dollar).

Wisconsin and Michigan have a long history of popularity among Jewish students in this area and elsewhere. It stems from quotas that Ivy League colleges had on Jewish students.

Is this like many British schools where your standardized test score by itself determines admission?

Definitely Dickinson, F&M, and Gettysburg.
Never heard of Ursinus

Michigan didn’t want them in the dorms though, back in the day. Co-ops took the Jews, Japanese-Americans and African Americans.

Aren’t places like Lafayette and Gettysburg super pricey?

Locally I’d say Alabama and Auburn are both more popular OOS options than Tennessee.

The dumb kids, yes.

My DD is NOT dumb and was in fact accepted into quite a few nice Northeastern schools. DD was sick of political correctness being shoved down her throat every single day since she was in kindergarten. She just wants to be around normal kids who aren't so f g tense all the time. I work with their parents, she is correct. DD is a computer science major, not a dumb ass. But you keep spewing your elite crap.
