Georgetown v. Notre Dame

More than one school is called “Notre Dame.” Could it be that the would-be faculty member went to a different Notre Dame?

Or, could it be that the department in question was an especially religious department?

That poster clearly likes to embellish stories...he said Wash U was a "better institution" than ND. So, yeah, take his story with a grain of salt LOL.

Georgetown physical facilities are abysmal. ND has some very nice new dorms and older ones with great traditions. South Bend is a bit rough though.

Are you looking for a country club or an education? Nice facilitates are fine but not the most important thing by far to me. Some college tours spend half the tour talking about the dorms and great food. Suit yourself but i would focus on which school is a better fit for my desired path of study.

I’m not talking about the golf course. I’m talking about the filth in the food service, the unsanitary conditions in the bathrooms, the vermin and rats in the dorms, the exploding plumbing and the overall state of decay that is Georgetown and has been heavily documented of late.

Actually on the ND tour we never stepped foot in a dorm and the presentation and tour was very informative, professional, and more about ND academics and culture. Unlike our tour of Fordham, where the guide only spoke about how great it is to be in New York.

"By state, Illinois accounts for the most incoming students (216), followed by California (159), Indiana (151), New York (145) and New Jersey (116). The only state without representation is Wyoming. New York ranks first among cities/regions with 237 students, followed by Chicago with 209 and Southern California with 116. Sixty-two students hail from the South Bend area.

Within the U.S., about a quarter of the class are from the Northeast; 19 percent are from the Central Midwest; 19 percent are from the Southwest and West; 15 percent are from the Midwest; and 14 percent are from the Southeast. Nine percent of students are international or U.S. students living outside of the country."

There's no way on earth that Georgetown has that kind of geographic diversity. Very few schools do.

Last I saw Georgetown had undergrad students from every state except North Dakota, and 11% international.

ND is diverse in that it has students from all of the wealthy Chicago suburbs.

I am honestly shocked by this thread...I never realized that someone would choose ND over Georgetown. But I’m originally from the Midwest and kind of assumed no one would actively choose to live there.

I mean did it get better recently or something? I went to a Catholic high school in the Midwest in the 2000s and the people who went there from my high school weren’t exactly the best and the brightest/intellectually curious types. But maybe it’s kind of like GW and the reputation has changed over the years?

Rats could care less if the dorm is at GT or the dorm is at ND and there are rats at both places. They are one of the most adaptable and successful species on Earth. But if you prefer the big corn fed Indiana rats, choose ND.

Notre Dame US News Rankings 2000-2006:
2000: 19
2001: 19
2002: 18
2003: 19
2004: 18
2005: 18
2006: 20

To answer your question, yes. But it was pretty good to begin with. I did glance at the test scores back in 2000 and they were not as high...around 30-32 average ACT. Today that average is 33-35 so from that standpoint, yes...incoming freshmen are higher academic achievers now than then.

Oh please. Georgetown is a pit...and there are no rats at ND. Squirrels, yes. Mice, yes. Rats, no.

Same! I'm from the mid-west too and everyone I know was dying to get out of that part of the country. I think the ND hype is really crazy. For someone to pick it over G'town ... would seem really weird for anyone who loves urban/coastal living. The midwest is a pit and VERY red.

Oh please. You need to get out more. Who's that gay guy running for President again? You know, the DEMOCRAT from SOUTH BEND?
