I am honestly shocked by this thread...I never realized that someone would choose ND over Georgetown. But I’m originally from the Midwest and kind of assumed no one would actively choose to live there.

Well than that shows how out of touch you are I guess.

I mean did it get better recently or something? I went to a Catholic high school in the Midwest in the 2000s and the people who went there from my high school weren’t exactly the best and the brightest/intellectually curious types. But maybe it’s kind of like GW and the reputation has changed over the years?

Same! I'm from the mid-west too and everyone I know was dying to get out of that part of the country. I think the ND hype is really crazy. For someone to pick it over G'town ... would seem really weird for anyone who loves urban/coastal living. The midwest is a pit and VERY red.

Oh please. You need to get out more. Who's that gay guy running for President again? You know, the DEMOCRAT from SOUTH BEND?

One more piece of data to get you up to date. And oh, Pete's dad was a professor at ND.

The size of the endowments at these schools tells you everything you need to know. Go to Notre Dame.

I think the only reason you'd chose Georgetown over ND is if you want to be in DC.
Frankly, the schools are so different, it's odd to me that anyone would be considering those two and not know which one they'd prefer.
Far more people at ND had BC as their second choice - mostly Georgetown wasn't even on the radar.

My endowment is bigger than your endowment. . .

Yes mid west Dems!!! Thank you for keeping DT out of a second term. Saved the country.

Do students at Notre Dame still refer to students at St. Mary’s college “Smick chicks”?

It also has a more geographically diverse student bodies and is one of the country's few truly national universities. The campus is beautiful and the athletic program first-rate. Its endowment dwarfs Georgetown's and enables ND to fund a lot of things that GT simply cannot compete with. And you can't find a more helpful alumni network.

GT is better for some programs -- particularly foreign service -- but generally speaking ND's undergraduate programs are better.

GT is less "Catholic." ND may be too Catholic for some.

Obviously GT's location is a lot better, although the campus itself is cramped and crumbling.

You resurrected a two year old thread to spout this childishness?

Georgetown. No question. DH and I are both ND graduates and ND is in the middle of nowhere. South Bend sucks. That said, ND does have a great sophomore year abroad program so it doesn’t screw up your major if you want STEM.

I still think Georgetown has a more impressive name and fewer crazed alumni.

I have a hard time imagining these schools appealing to the same students. I went to Georgetown and did not even consider ND. I wanted to be in a city and I did not want a conservative or overtly religious environment. I know ND's reputation has risen over the years and it's true that Georgetown's endowment issues hold it back, but the factors I cited would lead me to the same decision today.

I laugh every single time I read something like this. While Georgetown certainly attracts a much larger percentage of non-Catholic applicants, the undergraduate school is still 60 percent Catholic and there is a huge overlap in applications between the two schools. They are generally considered the two most prestigious Catholic universities in the country.

That you personally did not even consider ND hardly means that nobody else would, hard as it is for you to "imagine."

My son (freshman at ND) would have loved being in a city, but he didn't even consider Georgetown. But he didn't want to stay in DC area.
