it's happening!

Republicans continue to believe that improper server use is the worst crime ever.

The lock-her-upers must be losing their st-t over this!

Except they're not, because they never cared about the servers - they just hated Hillary

Jared and Ivanka's private server has never bothered them!

Exactly.

If only Hillary had just baked those f(cking cookies. We could have avoided decades of misogyny.

I say this as someone who did not vote for Trump and would not vote for him. Apparently, the Democrats want to fast track the impeachment decision and hold a vote by the end of October with hearings to be completed by then so that it does not interfere with the primaries that will start in January.

Given that there are less than 15 months to the next election, that is the vehicle to replace Trump.

The impeachment is not about replacing Trump first and foremost. It is about accountability, upholding the Constitution, and ensuring that the Office of the President is not abused and used for personal gain at the expense of our deepest principles, our allies, and at risk to our national security. Waiting for the usual election cycle means allowing these behaviors in the Office of the President (and the offices of those who enabled and covered it up).

That fact that your sole focus is on who is in the office shows that you have lost your understanding of what the office is and why the Constitution is important.

Impeachment is a political/legal process. McConnell can put a stop to it by forcing a vote early in the process and bring the whole thing to a close because the chances of 67 senators voting to convict are negligible.

Besides there is no time frame for the the senate to hold a trial and McConnell could argue that with an election coming up the voters should decide if Trump should remain in office. Sort of what he did when he delayed the confirmation of Garland because an election was going to take place.

There wasn't a timeframe for Kavanaugh's confirmation either...

I think you're overestimating McConnell. Or underestimating him. While I expect that Trump will resign before it gets to that point, I see the Senate going forward with a vote and removing him from office. Trump cannot withstand this whistleblower complaint. He is done, and many Republicans will be happy to get rid of him.

Long shot but if enough Senators want more time for the trial, couldn't they remove Mitch from the Leadership?

Here is a link on how the Senate can do an end run on the whole issue of impeachment.

Summarily dismiss the charges and end the process

or

Delay any trial for as long as they want.

Of course the Senate can do that. But why should they? Why should they protect a dirty president?

These questions are pointless. If there becomes an incentive for them to convict, they will do it. It's up to the Dems to convince more Americans that impeachment is right. It will be tough. It's a higher bar than winning the EC.

But impeachment won't be good for the Pres or the GOP. If as many as 8 or so GOP Senators back impeachment, that's very distracting and damaging to the party.

Protecting him will take all the GOP the rest of the way down. It will be a blood bath.

It was long before that. The local GOP had it in for her in her Arkansas First Lady days. This is literally a grievance nursed by some misogynistic tuckwad that got whipped up into the public conscience and pushed for the next 40 years. As we can see, they don’t give two hoots about safety or security.

To pwn the libs no matter the effect on our democracy.

1. Public opinion swings for impeachment in a major way, including for Republican voters, given how egregious and *easy to understand* this all is.

2. Senators vote to impeach and the GOP proudly unveils a new candidate for the 2020 election.

A very high bar indeed, but... not impossible.

You can bet McTurtle and his aides are currently researching every avenue as we speak.

What are chances a new candidate is being vetted right now? Would Nikki go for it at this point or would Pence be in the fight?

Would-be candidates are putting out feelers and the GOP is mulling over all options. The first one is still, unfortunately, to deny and defend the President. They're just monitoring public opinion to find out whether that can last them until the election.

Honestly, I think the GOP could easily win in 2020 if they just picked a sane likable candidate. If John Kasich ran again I think he would have a lot of support.
