We are not with FCV, but the first post above is silly. FCV was one of the original 4 ECNL teams in the area. Yes, they were the only one that switched to DA, but they are a very successful club and ECNL would take them back in a second. Silly to suggest otherwise, even hypothetically. |

DA has the Arlington announcement on its website for 2019-20-this whole ECNL rumor is a bunch of bunk:
http://www.ussoccerda.com/20190220-NEWS-DA-Six-New-Clubs-to-Join-Girls-Development-Academy-for-19-20-Season |
| Check back on June 1-date for GDA schedules and events to be released. Bet Arlington will be listed. |
Things change. Yes the club used to be well connected to ECNL, but that owner sold the club to one of his coaches and moved on. FCV does not have the facilities, size or other attributes that ECNL clubs need these days. FCV parents talk big game on DCUM but they are a small club. They cannot even field certain age groups. If they did get ECNL, nobody in their right mind would pick them over MYS, Loudoun, or VDA. |
I have heard this rumor and while I don't know any inside information, there are a couple of interesting things to note: * US Soccer is rumored to be considering the elimination of the U13 DA program for boys. This would leave Arlington with just the U14 Boys DA program, which is certainly not ideal. * DC United is moving, which is leaving a gap in DA coverage for the DC metro region and the PG County area, where several players come from. If you attended any of the Arlington DA ID sessions, you'd note a few of the DCU DA players checking out Arlington as Loudon is probably too far for them to consider. US Soccer may consider an expansion for Arlington in the future to make up for the geographic gap that is now being created. |
I expect Arlington to gain full boys DA based on point B. US Soccer doesn't want to lose a DA club if they don't have to. |
US Soccer is definitely planning to have DA (run by US soccer) begin at U14. Teams can have Pre DA teams if they choose but they will not be part of US soccer DA program in future. 2019-2020 will be last year of U13 DA. |
US soccer should have expanded Arlington boys and girls DA to U16 for next year. But they did not. Unclear why. |
US Soccer seems to be doing a heck of a job all around: Poor job handling the MLS-affiliated teams on the BDA side. Terrible job handling the roll-out of GDA and push back from ECNL on the GDA side. Atrocious job with the USMNT. Getting sued by USWNT right before their World Cup. Anything else I am forgetting? |
How about lack of unlimited field space for all of these DA teams to train?? |
Isn’t US Soccer graduating the girls teams as they age up? Why couldn’t the same be done on the boys side. Ohh. Rabid anti-US soccer ECNL poster. Got it. |
Man there are some people on here that are either stupid or think everyone else is stupid. First, Arlington isn’t leaving DA and will have full boys DA to match girls as the DCU move west opens up geography for Arlington as some previous posters said. Arlington is very well run and full of good teams. Second, FCV is still the best girls club in the DC Metro. It’s not even up for argument. Could that change? Of course. The above critique of FCV is wishful thinking and completely ignorant of reality. Sounds like a jilted Loudoun or VDA parent or a McLean coach. And lol, someone posted Loudoun’s standings in ECNL earlier - literally the worst of the ECNL and DA clubs top to bottom. The standings for both boys and girls DA and ECNL are there for everyone to see. |
FCV used to be a top club but not anymore. There are too many other DA and ECNL options. Option with less drama and better playing and training environments. |

For all the people who read and dont post and want the truth:
If your daughter plays DA or ECNL then she wants to play college. A club is made up of a bunch of teams. Picking a club because a team 3 age group Is awesome up is dumb. Find a successful club near you for your daughters age group. If (in theory) Arlington 05 is the best in the nation and your daughter can make Arlington 05 and play, in suggest you take her there. It's really not that hard. Good teams get good exposure and attention from recruiters. Stop looking at clubs and look at teams. |
I think FCV is doomed. |
