Also note, shotgun blasting RDs is a waste of time and money if you're unhooked. Our daughters did flagship public as safety and ED to their dream schools. Had they not gotten in to the dream schools, they just would have gone to the public flagship.

More hubris.

“Only the annoying kids have to compare prices Mom. Bet they didn’t even go on vacation for Spring break.” You do realize that full pay is a hook ? I quess my only solace is that us poor folks don’t have to shell out 280k because a$$holes like yourself are footing the bill.

Now if you had acknowledged that you had been fortunate in life so gratefully your kids could afford full pay and therefore could take advantage of ED and not have to apply RD widely I’d say good on you.

Triggered striver.

Un-American elitist. Striving to be better is what this country is about.

Top notch GPA, SATs, APs, community service and ECs are common in our community, so we just have to gamble and apply to 20-30 schools. Oh well, eventually the cream will rise to the top.

Not trolling but I can understand that truths about high Asian achievement makes people uncomfortable. Especially those who get in with less qualifications than Asians.

They get in with higher test scores, NOT more qualifications. Test scores are one element in the process.

More lies. What are you? A faux news watching ignoramus?

Higher test scores, great GPAs, tons of APs/IBs scoring in 5s and 7s, stellar EC activities, stellar community service....these are qualifications in my books. What qualification does your kid have? (Wearing MAGA hats do not count!)

Where do we lack in our admissions? Skin color. Race. Not having broken families. Not being very poor or very rich (i.e being middle class). Not being FARMs or ESOL (mostly). Being minimized for our hard work - eg - Getting 800 in the SAT quant? Oh well, Asians are good in Math! Asians are good in spelling, in robotics, in science competitions, in playing musical instruments. Does that mean that then for us to be admitted we need to fail spectacularly.

Let me ask you all - are Asians a superior breed of humans, with superior brain powers? Is that what it is all about? Genetically we have an edge and so the bar has to be higher for our students? If you don't think that we have a genetic edge then any discrimination on qualifications is racism. Great way to remove merit from US.

The entitled apples don’t fall far from the tree.

I would have been so ashamed of my kids if they'd acted that way. I certainly wouldn't be bragging about it on DCUM. It would have been time for a sharp reminder on privilege and empathy, not something of which I would be, God forbid, proud. Yikes.

My child applied for med school for entrance in fall 2019. I was shocked to learn that the average number of med school apps is 16.

On med school forums people who want to know what their chances of getting in are describe their demographic in one of three ways: URM, white, or ORM (over represented minority, essentially Asian, includes those of Iranian origin).

It is not uncommon for people to apply to 25 or 30 schools. While there is a common primary app, the vast majority of schools then ask for a secondary app that is not standardized. I read one post on a med school forum from an Asian who said he and his friend, also Asian, each applied to 50 schools.

My kid is a freshman at an HYP so you can suck an egg.

Kids applying to 7-year medical programs or BS/MD programs will often apply to a whole bunch because they are over-the-top competitive and results are unpredictable. Another reason is trying to get merit scholarship money. Donut hole families may need to do this.

What percent of white students attend the Best university in China or Japan?

I come from an Asian family and want to state that: many Asian cultures are sadly focused on status, to impress other families. #2. Many Asian families perceive those with darker skin as having lower social status. Bear these truths in mind, as you read some of these posts.

Some Asians would like to believe this, but it is simply not true lol. Asians are hard workers, period. Remember when the Jews were like that? Many years ago it was the Jews who worked their butts off to achieve. And now they are becoming complacent and the Asians have taken over that trait. Asians will succeed with hard work...not with "superior brain powers."
